THE GAME
Whilst the Angels were busy demolishing Sussex opponents Worthing at Longmead on Tuesday evening, this weekend’s visitors Carshalton Athletic scraped a draw away at Horsham.
The Angels were simply unstoppable during midweek, putting six goals past Worthing keeper Rikki Banks with just the single reply, that coming from a quickly taken Stafford Browne set-piece. Jon Main bagged four of the goals, including two penalties whilst Scott Gooding bagged a brace on his home debut. Adam O’Neill, on as a substitute, rounded off the scoring in injury time.
Our visitors have picked up only one point from their opening two fixtures since relegation from the Conference South back in May. Having been narrowly defeated by neighbours AFC Wimbledon last weekend, ‘The Robbins’ grabbed a point at Horsham midweek thanks to a late late strike from defender David Graves.
THE ANGELS v CARSHALTON
The two clubs have met just twice before, and both in cup tie action. On both occasions it is the Robins who have been successful. In 1976 Carshalton prevailed by three goals to nil in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round, while nine years later won in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round, 2-0.
