Molesey Res 0-2 Tonbridge Angels Res
Saturday, 18 March, 2006
Suburban League Southern Division
Tonbridge Reserves picked up three valuable points on Saturday in difficult playing conditions, on a rock hard pitch and with a swirling wind the Angels dug deep into there resources and fully deserved the win.

With both sides taking time to settle, it was a while before the visitors took control of the game, with Steve Ward and the ever improving Danny Powell a constant threat to the home defence. The home keeper made two good saves from John Sinclair and Manny Neville before Ward finally broke the deadlock, the leggy forward capitalising on some hesitation in the home defence before lifting the ball over the advancing goalkeeper and slotting the ball into the empty net.

Molesey responded well and it took a brilliant full length save from Matt Bromby to keep the scores level, the goalkeeper was fortunate not to give a penalty away a few minutes later when the bounce of the ball eluded him and he collided with a Molesey forward. The second half was a fairly even affair with neither keeper fully extended, mid-way through the half the Angels were unlucky not to have doubled the scoreline when a long ball beat the home defence but the Molesey keeper anticipated well and snatched the ball from the toes of Ward.

Powell finally put the result beyond doubt with a brilliant individual goal, outstripping the home defence before sliding the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Jack Maddams from the Under 16s then came on for Powell for his debut as the visitors saw the last few minutes out for a well deserved victory.

Manager's Comments: "It was a very good result for us in difficult conditions, D.P. is looking really sharp and his work rate is second to none, really pleased for Steve Ward as it has been a bit up and down for him since he joined but hopefully this will be the start of a good run for him. As for Tommy Reeves I am so pleased for him, his performance today was superb and he looks now to be enjoying his football again. Ben had a solid game at wing-back and with Matty in goal getting stronger with every game things are looking good for the squad."
