A goal by Danny Powell on 17 minutes was enough to settle this entertaining game at Longmead on Saturday in front of a good size crowd.
Both sides played good attacking football which was a credit to both clubs, Tonbridge had the better of the early exchanges and as early as
the sixth minute Powell's 20-yard shot had rattled the underneath of the Wimbledon cross bar. Wimbledon gave a start to former Chelsea and
Bournemouth player Joe Sheenan, returning to the club from Worthing but former Dons' player Sim Johnson dealt with his former team-mate well, Sheenan having only one worthwhile effort on goal. To be fair to the visitors the home defence was solid and keeper Goldsmith handled everything impeccably. With Tommy Reeves sitting in just behind the front two and orchestrating the play Angels pace up front always had the
Dons defence in trouble, Wheeler in the visitors' goal saved well from O'Neill and Powell, whilst at the other end Rainbow made an important challenge to deny the Dons' winger as he raced in on goal.
The second half was as lively as the first with play swinging from end to end, as the pressure mounted on the home team numerous free kicks were given away in dangerous areas but apart from one header which just went over the bar the Angels defence coped well. From a breakaway the Angels were unlucky not to have wrapped the game up Powell sliding his effort past Wheeler but the ball just missed the far post. The keeper also did well to deny efforts from O'Neill and Cramp.

Manager's Comments: "A very good performance from all the players involved, I think this game/performance proved we have the right quality players at the club and in the squad, players that are prepared to work hard for each other and in many cases some will go on and play at a higher level. Considering the problems we have with the current training facilities some of our play today was excellent, as it has been at times in previous games, the spirit in the team is second to none and this is a very important factor for any team. The result today certainly had us all dancing in the changing rooms afterwards Dave!!!"
