In an exciting Kent Intermediate Cup Quarter-Final the Angels grabbed a semi-final place in the final few minutes of extra time with an Ollie Miles goal, a place that was thoroughly deserved for Tonbridge who will now face either Sevenoaks or Bromley Reserves. The Angels started the better of the two sides with the midfield trio of Parkes, Neville & Ponsford dictating play and it was no surprise to see the home side take the lead,a delightful ball played in from the right by Manny Neville found Phil Cramp who glided his header past the diving Matt Hurley in the Invicta goal.
Tonbridge had two or three chances to increase the lead but could not find the killer instinct in front of goal, as the half wore on Invicta started to see more of the ball as the impressive Simon Rainbow started to show his class in the middle of the park, Invicta's top scorer Tom Poynter had a couple of efforts on goal but Shayne Goldsmith saved well and handled the ball well throughout the game.
Invicta finished the half the better of the two sides and continued the impetus in the opening stages of the second half, again Goldsmith
was the saviour on a couple of occasions. Invicta brought on the highly-rated Oliver Waters for Poynter and within minutes the substitute had
levelled the scoreline, turning well in the box and firing home from twelve yards. Angels dug deep into their character as the visitors threw all they had at them but with the inspirational captain Sim Johnson who played most of the game with a neck injury and Richard
Ponsford's experience, the home side weathered the storm, and in fact created two good chances to have won the tie in normal time, Tom Reeves
having a shot blocked and Ollie Miles heading just wide.
The first period of extra time was end to end with both sides creating chances but neither side worked the keepers, Richard Knott's tireless running for the visitors kept the home defence on it's toes and for the home team their own Rainbow, Ben was a continual threat despite a foot injury on the right-hand side. The second period of extra time started explosively a 30-yard shot from Ponsford thumped against the cross bar and fell to Reeves whose shot was somehow kept out by Hurley, then a ball played across the face of the Invicta goal some ten yards out was blasted wide by Ponsford with the goal at his mercy.
With five minutes left on the clock and penalty kicks looming, Ian Parkes corner kick was played back into the penalty area were Miles flicked the ball past Hurley and into the net for what turned out to be the deciding goal.

Manager's Comments: "We showed great character and a desire to win, as a team performance this was probably the best so far this season, certain individuals had their best games for the team this season such as Ben Rainbow and Shayne but I was very pleased for the team as they all showed what they can do, we must now try and build on this result and start to move up the league, which we have now shown we are more than capable of doing."
