Tonbridge Angels 2-0 Molesey
Tuesday, 25 April, 2006
Ryman League Division One - Attendance 263
Goals in each half from Fraser Logan and "Razor" Powell eased Tonbridge home in this twice-postponed fixture, but Molesey had their moments and things could have been different but for the excellent form of Jerome John in the Angels goal.

With Danny Lye still suspended, Dobla stuck with the same line-up and formation that defeated Hastings on Saturday. Tonbridge once again got off to a flyer with an early goal, though there was an element of good fortune involved. Fraser Logan struck his low left-foot drive from the edge of the box well enough, but Moles 'keeper John Ashwood seemed to have got down and across in time until the ball struck a divot and hopped over his outstretched hand.

There was little to excite the crowd through the rest of the first half. Molesey had two decent efforts midway through, Sam Lampard's drive finding the side netting before the ball fell to Wayne Noad well inside the box - fortunately an Angels body got in the way of the shot. Powell guided a header just wide for the Angels from Dolby's cross right on the whistle.

Molesey came out the stronger in the second half and JJ was quickly at the centre of the action, leaping spectacularly to claw away Lampard's' thumping long range drive. Powell snatched a decent chance over the top from 15 yards at the other end before Ruggles missed a real chance for the Moles, putting a free header from half-time sub Steve Brown's well-delivered free kick straight into JJ's hands. Molesey's next attack saw JJ make another superb save from Brown's close range header, and the popular Angels stopper was quickly to the rescue again, flinging himself to his right to deny Lampard again from 18 yards.

Tonbridge looked shaky, but were settled by a second goal on 57 minutes. Powell gambled to challenge on a Logan cross which seemed to be the keeper's ball, and got there just in front of a hesitant Ashwood to glance the ball home. Ashwood redeemed himself soon afterwards with a fine one-handed save from Luke Piscina following Adam O'Neil's incisive pass, but the game settled into a grinding stalemate as time wore on.

The Angels could have had a third in the final minute, Piscina slicing wide after being played in by sub Nick Barnes, and a tantalising Barnes cross went begging in the next attack - but the outcome was already settled and thoughts focussed elsewhere.
