An early Steve Aris goal put Tonbridge ahead to stay in a game played with steady rain falling throughout. The Angels deserved the points on the day after a solid all-round performance which put a dent in the visitors' own hopes of claiming a playoff spot.
Dobla stuck with the formation used in recent games, Fraser Logan and Drew Watkins filling wing-back roles and Danny Lye coming in to join Luke Piscina and Nick Barnes in midfield. Jay May returned to the starting XI alongside Ray Powell up front.
Tonbridge got the quick breakthrough when Watkins curled a free kick around the wall from right on the edge of the box. Kingstonian 'keeper Alan Hughes reacted late and only parried the shot back into play, where Aris was on hand to slot home the loose ball with just eight minutes gone.
K's hit back and had their best spell of the game in the middle of the first half. Stuart Booth directed Scott Corbett's cross just past the near post, then Bashiru Alimi brought JJ into action with a low drive from just outside the box. Jay May fired wide after Logan's cross caused problems in the K's defence before JJ was called upon again, catching well under pressure when Julian Sills whipped in a free kick from the right.
The Angels regained the ascendancy towards the end of the first half and could have extended their lead. Hughes gathered "Razor" Powell's low drive, May fired wide from another quality Logan cross, Barnes' long range effort wasn't far away and Watkins was eventually crowded out after good work from Piscina and Powell set up the opening.
The second half saw Tonbridge consolidate their grip on the game, playing solid football and denying the visitors much quality possession despite creating few chances themselves. Half-time substitute Martyn Lee blasted an early effort over from 15 yards, but that turned out to be the last serious threat to the home goal as the Angels set out to keep the pressure on. Piscina blasted a volley well over from May's layoff before Man-of-the-Match Powell worked himself through on goal with 20 minutes left. Hughes beat out the first effort back into Razor's path, but the second attempt was hurriedly skied over the bar.
A fine tackle from Aris robbed K's sub Kennny Ojukwa with ten minutes to go, and the visitors frustration surfaced late on when scything fouls from Steve Symes and Corbett earned yellow cards.
