Tonbridge had enough chances to win this game comfortably, but, as so often in football, paid the penalty for failing to convert them when Greg Ball's scuffed effort found the net deep into stoppage time to give the Casuals an unlikely win.
New signing Drew Watkins came straight into the team at right back with "Razor" Powell moving up front alongside Jon Main. Steve Sodje made his first home appearance since rejoining Tonbridge on loan on the right side of a midfield quartet with Dobla, Nick Barnes and Fraser Logan - Danny Lye making way from last week's starting XI and joining The Angels' second new signing of the week, Dean Smith, on the bench.
Tonbridge started fast and the first few minutes were to prove a microcosm of the entire game. Sodje went on a powerful box-to-box run which Walton struggled to snuff out. Barnes set up Main who shot weakly straight at Danny Andrews in the Casuals goal, then Logan's fine cross picked out Main who headed over from close range.
Walton proved capable of some incisive play themselves with Scott Harris and Craig Carley catching the eye in midfield, and JJ was relieved to see David Ocquaye's effort fly just wide midway through the first session. Casuals took a shock lead on 32 minutes, James Pearson firing Carley's cutback beyond JJ, and Ocquaye missed another opening before Tonbridge regained the initiative - Steve Aris, Main and Barnes all wasting more decent chances before the break.
Sodje was causing havoc with his runs from deep, and it seemed a matter of when, not if, the Angels would eventually find the net. Tonbridge wound up the pressure in the second half and the Casuals goal led a charmed life. Main picked out Andrews from Danny Glozier's cross, then hit the post from Logan's feed. Ray Powell blazed over with the goal at his mercy before finally levelling midway through the half, picking up Andrews' weak goal kick and running through to force the ball home.
Andrews pulled off a fine block from Logan, the follow-up cross somehow eluding Main at the far post, and Tonbridge looked set to go on and press home their advantage. It wasn't to be however. Casuals stemmed the tide and started to pose a threat of their own, JJ having to save well from Ocquaye and Ball before John Ambridge missed a great chance to give them a late lead.
Wade Falana replaced the injured Powell with five minutes left and should have won the game for Tonbridge in stoppage time, heading Logan's cross over a gaping goal from close in - leaving Ball to twist the knife at the death and the Angels shaking their heads in disbelief.
