Croydon Athletic v Tonbridge Angels
Saturday, 25 March, 2006
Ryman League Division One
The Angels will look to build on their impressive victory over Lymington & New Milton last weekend by picking up maximum points against promotion hopefuls Croydon Athletic at Mayfields on Saturday. The two sides have previously met on only four occasions, with the Angels coming out on top each and every time. The previous encounter was the reverse fixture back in September where goals from Luke Piscina and Tony Dolby were enough to give the hosts all three points. Jamie Byatt scored Croydon’s only goal that evening.

Our hosts threw away a two-goal advantage on Saturday when they visited Cray Wanderers and eventually had to settle for a point after a 2-2 scoreline. However, ‘The Rams’ still sit in 7th position, just two points outside the playoffs with a game in hand on Tooting & Mitcham who sit directly above them. ‘The Rams’ boast an excellent record on home turf too, having only lost three games all season, those against Hastings Utd, Ramsgate and Bashley. They certainly don’t concede many, leaking just 12 in 18 home fixtures this campaign. In this season’s FA Cup competition, our opponents failed at the first hurdle, being dumped out by our Kent neighbours Ramsgate. They faired slightly better in the FA Trophy but after dispatching of Rothwell Town and Slough Town, they were eliminated by Barking & East Ham Utd.

STAR MAN: Eben Allen (Forward) - Eben had two spells with Dulwich Hamlet, rejoining the second time from Croydon in October 2001. Has also played for Yeading, Molesey, Hampton, Staines Town, Marlow, Goldalming & Guildford and was on the books at both Arsenal and West Brom as a youngster. Moved onto Tooting & Mitcham in January 2004 before joining The Rams in the summer. At 31, Eben is a proven goalscorer at this level and is currently one of the leading goalscorers with 20 goals in all competitions.
