On Tuesday evening, Longmead is the venue for the most eagerly anticipated league fixture for many a year, as promotion rivals Dover Athletic are our visitors. The two sides have met on countless occasions, with the most recent of those back in November at Crabble, where the two sides fought out a rather uninspiring 0-0 draw. Both The Angels and ‘The Whites’ will be looking to get back to winning ways following a poor run of results, and both will be looking to kick-start their promotion push back to Ryman Premier after the heartache of relegation last year. Our visitors came away from Lymington & New Milton last weekend with a hard earned point as Craig Wilkins’ early strike was cancelled out.
Our opponents currently lie in 9th position, but have only lost 6 games all season. They haven’t fared so well in the cup competitions this season, having lost to Chelmsford City in The FA Cup and Dartford in The FA Trophy. Fellow Kent outfit Bromley dispatched them from Westview Cup having seen off Ware, Wembley and Premier Division outfit Leyton whilst Conference outfit Gravesend & Northfleet defeated them a couple of weeks back in the Kent Senior Cup.
STAR MAN – James Dryden
'Jimmy' signed for Dover in December 2005 from Folkestone Invicta. Folkestone's record senior appearance holder and goalscorer, the striker was voted Supporters' Player of the Year three times in four seasons. Born on 4 February 1980, James is a strong player and prolific goalscorer. He scored 29 goals in all competitions for Folkestone in 2004/2005.
