Tonbridge Angels v Tooting & Mitcham United
Saturday, 4 February, 2006
Ryman League Division One
On Saturday, our visitors to Longmead are fellow promotion candidates Tooting & Mitcham Utd in what has been billed a massive game for both clubs. Although, by no means ‘a must win’ for either side, the outcome of this mouth-watering ‘six-pointer’ will go a long way in deciding the fate of the two teams. Undoubtedly, the Angels will be looking to get back to winning ways as soon as possible, following their disappointing loss to Met. Police in midweek. On the other hand, our visitors, who currently lie in 4th position in the table, are sure to be in search of another three points following an impressive victory away at in-form Bashley.

These two high-fliers have previously met on seven occasions, with this particular clash being the third already this campaign. In the reverse fixture, back in December, the Angels comfortably brushed aside their opponents thanks to strikes from Nick Barnes and Darren Smith. This after Tooting had beaten Tonbridge earlier on in the season in Westview Cup 2nd Round by a single goal. ‘The Terrors’ were thumped by Fisher 6-2 in FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round while fellow Ryman Premier outfit Wealdstone put paid to their FA Trophy chances. Billericay were their conquerors in the Westview Cup 4th Round after eliminating Walton Casuals, Edgware Town and the Angels. On Tuesday, they were sent flying from the Surrey Senior Cup by Conference side Woking, losing 2-1 after being a goal to the good. However, they still have a chance of silverware in the shape of London Senior Cup. Hendon await them in Quarter-Finals after dispatching Hanwell Town and Wingate & Finchley.

STAR MAN – John Hastings
A promising young striker who came through Hayes’ Youth Academy. His 2002/03 season was cut short when he suffered a couple of serious injuries in the Middlesex Premier Cup Final. A former British Colleges player, he moved to Tooting & Mitcham United in December 2004. Has scored an astonishing total of 52 goals in just 77 appearances during his career at Imperial Fields. Has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season.
