The Angels kick off the New Year by visiting Kent rivals Ramsgate in what can only be described as a mouth-watering fixture between two sides chasing automatic promotion. The two rivals have met on numerous occasions, mainly in Cup competitions but notably during the Thanet side's Southern League years of the 1960s. The last meeting was the reverse fixture back in August where Tonbridge ran out 2-1 victors at Longmead thanks to goals from Leroy Huggins and an own goal.
The Rams currently sit in fourth position having played the same amount of games as ourselves and picking up only three points fewer. Having won three games on the spin (against Ashford Town, Croydon Athletic & Met Police) followed by a priceless draw away at Dover Athletic on Boxing Day, our hosts will surely be in confident mood ahead of this clash at The Southwood Stadium. Our opponents enjoyed a tremendous march all the way to the 1st Round Proper of The FA Cup this season, and were eventually beaten by Conference North outfit Nuneaton Borough. It took Ryman Premier side AFC Wimbledon a replay to defeat them in The FA Trophy whilst Newport IOW beat them in The Westview Cup.
STAR MAN – Shaun Welford - 26 year old striker.
From Ashington, Northumberland, Shaun joined the Rams last season from Dover Athletic, who had signed him from Kent League Corinthians. 18 goals in all competitions for his so far and has scored seven goals in his last four starts.
