Hastings United v Tonbridge Angels
Saturday, 10 December, 2005
Ryman League Division One
On Saturday, The Blues travel to Pilot Field for the second time already this campaign to take on Hastings Utd in Ryman Div 1 action. The earlier meeting this season was in FA Cup action, where the Angels grabbed a late equaliser through Ray Powell to earn a replay, which they duly won. Our hosts currently sit just two points outside of the playoffs, in 7th position, having amounted 30 points from their opening 19 fixtures. They are unbeaten in 3 games now and impressively beat Met Police 2-1 in their previous outing. The Sussex outfit exited this season’s FA Trophy competition at the very first hurdle, losing 2-0 at Corby Town in a replay. They also narrowly lost out to Braintree Town in The Westview Cup after easily dispatching of Epsom & Ewell and Fleet Town. In the County Cup competition, they are due to face Worthing after beating Hailsham Town 3-1. Hastings will undoubtedly be looking for revenge after the earlier defeat, and having recently released Welsh legend Neville Southall from his post as manager, the players will be looking to impress for whoever the new boss is.

STAR MAN – Sam Adams (Striker – Aged 18). Highly promising teenage striker, who joined Hastings in June 2005 from Rye & Iden United, where he had quickly developed a reputation as a natural goalscorer. Was linked with a move to a higher level, before agreeing to sign for the Club and a fine start to the season was rewarded with the offer of a two-year contract in November 2005. Currently the clubs leading goalscorer with six in all competitions.
