The two sides have met a massive 71 times in all, including the last meeting which came in 2000 when Margate ran out 4-0 winners in a Dr Martens Cup clash. The club played last season in The Conference South and groundshared at neighbours Ashford Town FC. ‘The Gate’ finished 21st in the league and suffered a 10-point deduction when falling into administration, resulting in relegation to the Ryman Premier Division.

They produced their most disappointing displays in The FA Cup and in The FA Trophy where remarkably they were knocked out by the same clubs that defeated the Angels last season, Braintree Town and Walton & Hersham. Conversely they enjoyed some much better moments in The Nationwide League Cup where they destroyed Welling, Thurrock and Dagenham & Redbridge. However. the 04/05 season will be ultimately remembered for their Kent Senior Cup success, beating Dover in a thrilling final, in memory of Paul Sykes, who tragically collapsed in their semi-final match against Folkestone Invicta.
