A point did very little to assist the visitors in their quest to avoid relegation in this unexciting and lacklustre affair. Having already been dumped out of this seasons Bryco Cup and being beaten comfortably earlier on in the season at Longmead, Tonbridge were looking for revenge to keep their hopes of retaining Premier Division status alive.
The Angels went in search of an early goal straight from the off with a front three looking a potent threat in attack. Jay May’s aerial prowess and Leroy Huggins’ determination combined with Steve Sodje’s skill down the left hand side meant that the visitors looked the brighter of the two sides in the first 20 minutes. A mazy run from Sodje created the opening chance of the game when he dribbled around two defenders only to see his effort blocked by goalkeeper Andy Carter at his near post. Nick Barnes, Tim Hambley and Jay May all tried their luck from distance but were unable to challenge the confident keeper. However, it was the home side that snatched the lead on the half hour. Lanky striker Ben Alexander put Wealdstone in front from a Gary Burrell cross from the right, gaining the better of both John Beales and the onrushing Jamie Turner. The nicely flicked header found the back of the net despite the best attentions of Craig Roser to clear off the line.
With a one-goal lead, Wealdstone continued to attack in the second period. Danny Tilbury, Richard Jolly and goalscorer Alexander all had efforts saved by Turner and Dave Ryan had an amazing opportunity after a goalmouth scramble that was eventually cleared to safety. Tonbridge equalised on 73 minutes against the run of play when substitute Luke Piscina rifled in a left footed shot after defender Robin Tucker made a mess of clearing the danger. The last 15 minutes saw Tonbridge completely dominated proceedings although clear chances were few and far between. The best chance came the way of the lively Piscina again in injury time, but his shot could only find the right hand upright.
