Sunday, 23 October, 2005: Focus turns to top-of-the-table clash; Ponsford returns
Dover Athletic and Tonbridge Angels will renew their rivalry in front of a potential four-figure bumper crowd this Tuesday night. Both sides were relegated from the Ryman League Premier Division last season, the East Kent side after being beaten by the Angels at Longmead Stadium, and this season the pair head the race for promotion from Division One.
Meanwhile Richard Ponsford has returned to Longmead Stadium after wearing Tonbridge colours during the 2001/02 season. Remarkably this makes the former Folkestone and Fisher left-back our longest-serving player! Ponsford will provide cover in defence and on the left.

Sunday, 23 October, 2005: Stunning Angels fire warning to title rivals
It is 13 years since the last time Longmead Stadium was treated to a 7-0 scoreline in favour of the Angels, but the 425 supporters at the ground yesterday witnessed one of the finest performances by a Tonbridge side in recent memory.
Newport IOW were blitzed by a rampant Tonbridge attack which had gained a 4-0 advantage by half-time, but the second half had more to come with another three goals. The result could not be more timely with closest rivals Dover Athletic our next opponents. The Angels visit the Crabble this Tuesday night and a four-figure crowd is anticipated.
Above right: Joe McCormack is at full-stretch but still cannot stop Tony Dolby's stunning 35-yard free-kick from opening the scoring for the Angels.

Saturday, 15 October, 2005: Angels through to next round of FA Trophy
Tonbridge made it third time lucky in the Cups this week with a 1-0 win over Southern League Premier Division side Cheshunt. Luke Piscina's 30th minute strike was enough to clinch victory. The result killed off bad memories of our experiences against the Hertfordshire side last season, losing 6-1 and missing a last-minute penalty in the return match, and gives the Angels a good chance of progressing to the 3rd Qualifying Round. Newport IOW are the next opponents in the competition after earning a shock 2-0 win at Ryman Premier leaders Hampton & Richmond. The Islanders are also our next opposition in the league, next Saturday.

The Angels tumbled out of the Westview Cup by a single goal tonight after defeat by Tooting & Mitcham United at Longmead Stadium.
Several first-team players were rested and first-team debuts were handed out to young players Adam O'Neill and Lee Kennett, who both came on as second-half substitutes.

Tuesday, 11 October, 2005: Angels Online Update
Apologies first for the lack of updates to Angels Online in the last few days. This is due in part to an intense input of work into the 60th Anniversary Book to be published in 2008 to celebrate the Club's Diamond Jubilee.
For more information on the 60th Anniversary Book and how you can be a part of it, click on the Book Appeal Page or on the book's prototype cover as shown to the right.
On Saturday the Angels' FA Cup run came to an end at the hands of Worcester City. Trailing 1-0 at half-time a comeback was always a possibility rather than a certainty and our hopes were killed off by two late goals. Worcester go on to play Accrington Stanley of the Nationwide Conference in the 4th Qualifying Round.
Meanwhile one of our rivals for promotion Dover Athletic were in League action on Saturday and dropped their first points of the campaign going down 2-0 at Tooting & Mitcham United. Tooting of course are opponents in the Westview Cup tonight although after a heavy run of games we are unlikely to field a strong side.

Friday, 7 October, 2005: Angels Online Update
The Lymington Match Report has now been added. Match Report Here.
The Molesey report should appear later today.
|
Wednesday, 5 October, 2005: Four-point haul for double away trip
The Angels earned four points from their two trips to Lymington & New Milton and Molesey this week, and remain top of the Ryman League Division One. At the end of the season we should look back on the two games as good results, with our injury list continuing to gnaw away at the squad and an entirely new central-defensive pairing having to take to the field on Saturday.
Lymington were beaten 2-1 on Saturday by goals from Jay May and Luke Piscina, while last night we held out for a 1-1 draw after a late rally from our hosts Molesey. Leroy Huggins was the Tonbridge goalscorer. In both games new signings Lew Watts and Steve May (a youngster on a brief loan from Brighton & Hove Albion's Academy side) acquitted themselves well and currently May is heading the Angels Online Man of the Match poll for his debut at the New Forest-based side.
So with that run of three league games successfully negotiated our thoughts turn to Cup football and the highlight is no doubt Saturday's away game at Worcester City in the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round. Don't forget kick-off is at 2pm due to the England-Austria World Cup Qualifier at Old Trafford. Should the game end in a draw the replay will take place at Longmead Stadium next Tuesday evening, 11 October, 7.45pm kick-off.
