Right Here Goes!
This issue really needs to be put to bed and as one of the worst ref abusers (hands up) I really do try hard not to. I would ask those on both sides of this arguement to consider the following.
Firstly for those who feel uncomfortable about the chanting of swear words in public I would ask if you have ever attended a rock concert since 1990? Some may argue 10 years before that but hey who cares. Principle is the same. If you have seen Foo Fighters or dozens of other bands where swearing is seen as a part of a good night out and you may be a little more qualified to understand why the odd F**k or worse really is not perceived as anything other than good fun by the generation who have grown up with it. Not for one minute saying it's right but try to accept the culture even if you don't like it.
Second for those who feel that this is all part of the game and Nick and others are making a fuss about nothing. While I understand the way you feel please understand this. You are in the minority, plain and simple. The vast majority of our supporters are not members of the barmy army and never will be. Most are my age and over and some are broad minded enough not to worry about it like me but as I have discovered since this all started most do not like it and many are upset enough to be considering going elsewhere.
I share the opinion of many that if you can't accept at a football match what you are prepared to dish out at work,or school, you should all stop swearing altogether and it is the case that this argument is swamped with hypocracy on all sides but.
It really is time to draw the line on the whole subject and it is surely time for Nick to take responsibility for his statement. Get out there speak to those who are going over the top and if necessary start dishing out some penalties.
We really must stop beating ourselves up and start beating other teams.

I think I know what your argument's about Newrymaner and I agree with most of it - but the thing about football-especilly non-league is to let yourself go once in a while . A few dodgy swear words may be not ideal but we have to let off steam now and again! And if you don't like it behind the goal - --don't stand there!

I've seen the respones today but thre issue is not the swearing , on an individual basis , it's the orchastrated profanity. I'm a bit too old to have a young kid but even I moderate my language when there's a child or women in the proximity.
Mikey Ow, with his official job ,really does not to grow up & accept responsibility, he's at times the club's spokesman & what's gone on doesn't make us look good.
What we all seem to be missing is what the majority , yes it is the majority ,Mikey, is the orchanstraited chants. "The ref's a ****, if you hate Maidstone******** clap your hands". There are young kids there, are you proud of yourselves.
I've supported the Angels over 30 years, I don.t come on here very often but frankly I'm ashamed of the reputatation we seem to be getting because people can't keep a civil tongue in their head. And yes I do swear at the ref etc but that's a one off, not an chant..
Newrymener2 is a guy I don't often agree with by but I'd defend his right to an opinion & this time I'm with him. If I had a kid I would avoid Longmead like the plague becuase of the deliberate use of profanities.A friend of mine won't bring his grandaughter because of people who don't know how to behave. That's the furure
Mikey OW I live in Tonbridge & if you think, having read your posts thats the norm for Tonbridge/ Sainsbury's we really do have a problem
