What the majority, yes majority, object to is not the individual swearing but the orchestrated chanting of obsenities. Face it, it's not clever, it's juvenile & puts the club in a bad light. It's no good saying other clubs are worse, we should be leading. The point of if Nick is right or wrong , in publisising the problem, is irrelevent, the people who are responsible have brought it on themselves ignoring Nick's previous appeals. If they behaved in such a manner in the High St, plod, assuming you could find one, would arrest them for public order offences

The above point saying it doesn't matter if Nick is right or wrong is nonsense. There is no reason why this has to be front page news on the town's newspaper, especially when we have had a poor start to the season and admission prices have gone up 25%. It's a PR disaster. We're not a big club and pretty much everybody knows everybody else down at Longmead, if not personally then at least by sight. We all know who chants songs with swear words. Personally I think they create a good atmosphere. But if the club disagree they know exactly who they are. Perhaps a quiet word on a 1 to 1 basis would get a positive response rather than growly headlines that the entire town will see even if they don't buy the paper.
Of course there is always the chance that the journalist has rather sensationalised things and Nick himself has been misqouted or his words misinterpreted. Having only seen the headline and not read the article it's difficult to comment. Either way it's an embarrasing day for the club.
