Jack Maddams 5 a side tournament
« on: Thursday, 29 May, 2008, 22:43.44 »

The Jack Maddams memorial 5 a side tournament takes place this saturday at Strood Sports Centre, Watling Street, Rochester. We have an absolutely fantastic turn out, with our maximum of 48 teams entering from as far afield as Leicester, Suffolk, Herts and London. The Angels U18s will be there, as will youth sides from Maidstone, Chatham, Ebbsfleet, Cray & AFC Wimbledon alongside teams from Jack's school, mates, teachers, family, corporates and other yobbidihoys along the way. We have DJs, raffles, cake stalls, etc etc alongside the football, with the opportunity to go for a swim at the centre if the need comes to cool down.
We will have good coverage on BBC Radio kent, Invicta, local papers & hopefully BBC South East Today.
If you want to come down to check it out, please do so - the more the merrier.
We are raising funds for CRY, the charity that deals with sudden death. We now know Jack died of the very rare Brugada Syndrome, which can be looked up on the internet and is not too cheery (I too have it...no-one else thankfully).
We are looking for a £5 donation per person which can be made via
www.justgiving.com/jackmaddams.
We aim to raise over £6,500.

We have a prize to raffle of 4 rounds of golf at the Rochester & Cobham Golf Club which in itself would cost around £150. If anyone wishes to place a bid for this, please call me on 07905 607706 where I shall add it to the other sealed bids on the day.
I also draw your attention to our eBay shop where we will be introducing a number of fantastic signed sports memorabilia pieces in coming days, such as a framed, signed shirt from John Terry, signed Norwich, Spurs & Stoke shirts plus a signed cricket bat from Essex CCC. Access this at
 http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Jack-Maddams

Last point: ANY REFEREES OUT THERE ! We have 130+ games of 10 minutes to cover and I'm going to be run ragged unless I get some help! Please! Call me on the above number if you can help, or just turn up with whistle in hand!!
Thanks,
Roger M

What a hoot Saturday's tournament was!The sun shone, the cake stall sold out in record time and everyone had a great time in memory of Jack. We had a full cast of 48 teams, and in the end Maidstone United u-18 beat Ebbsfleet 4-2 in the final. Maidstome beat the Angels in the semis.
We're still counting the cash, but we have raised at least £7,000 for CRY charity and are still running as we have a fantastic ebay shop set up at
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Jack-Maddams
We have a framed, signed John Terry Chelsea shirt, signed Spurs, Norwich, Stoke shirts, signed Ipswich and Bolton pennants and a signed cricket bat from Essex CCC.
The teams were a delight - I refereed for 7 solid hours and the conduct & behavious of (especially) the Tonbridge & Maidstone teams was absolutely exemplary. Thank you!
You can still donate via www.justgiving.com/jackmaddams
Yes, there was a story about the tournament and how I have the same condition that Jack had in the Saturday Sun & Mirror, and is on their websites. I awoke on Friday to the Medway News' headline "I Face Sudden Death" which somewhat surprised me! I am more likely to die of excitement at a game.......

Congratulations on what seems to have been a fantastic day for everyone involved and a tremendous sum of money raised.  Smiley
