Grounds where they charge to sit (to my knowledge):

Sittingbourne
Folkestone
AFCW
Billericay
Chelmsford I think
(thought there were more but can't remember..)
Horsham
Dover
Sutton
Boreham Wood did but now not in our league
Carshalton didnt but did charge to park..
Margate charge £2 to sit!

So thats the half of the league then...

Well that's Margate, Sutton, Dover and Billericay. + AFCW if they stay in our league and Horsham IF they have the same arrangements when they move to a different ground. Still not half or even "nearly all"...

I have just logged on after a very busy day and have read with fascination many of the posts on this thread.
While I sympathise with the view that some people may be inconvenienced by the "proposed" decision to charge a bit more for sitting in the new seats I am convinced that we have to move forward and always believed that the supporters felt the same way.
It is nonsense to support a club on the pitch while refusing to do so off it and this has always been an uncomfortable reality at this club.
The few that do pay more than the entrance fee each week do so because they want the club to move onward and upward through the pyramid and they understand that a tenner a fortnight from 500 or so hardy souls is just not enough to achieve the ambitions we all should have.
Regarding those who cannot stand ie disabled ,infirmed etc.I am certain that under the Disability Discrimination Act we have to provide a certain amount of facilities. Maybe Charlie can confirm that one.

I suppose it all comes down to the balance between our pockets and our wallets.

I for one wish to put on record my thanks to who ever is responsible for this unprecidented level of investment and ask those who are prepared to criticise  to put their money where their mouths are by stumping up the remaining funds if they feel that strongly.

Great news well done Gary and Nick.

Dan, although I agree that it will put off casual supporters who want to sit down at matches... and also that there are some people who have to sit down...

However the bit that baffles me is... people who are real angels supporters... there whatever the weather and every game.. but have a CHOICE to sit down or not..

and the impression some are making here is that if the extra money to sit down (probably only 50p!) means they cant afford it they wont come?

They dont have to sit down and if they are TRUE supporters of the Angels they will continue to come and support but just make do with standing.

Having paid £10 why should they 'make do'?

As TRUE supporters they should be treated a lot better than having to pay extra just to sit down.

Success on the pitch costs money
A nice ground costs money
Everything the club is doing for you lot at the moment costs money!

If everyone wants us to move forward, any extra income will help.

Otherwise we could all just pay a fiver a match, have a ground like East Thurrock's and have a team like T Wells. Grin

If the club is so desperate for all these extra 50p's (despite all the money we made this season), why were the gates left open for last night's Reserves match?    Huh

Oh i give up.

May I suggest this thread is locked until after the board meeting where they will decide how much/if there will be charges for sitting in the seating area.

For christ sake they haven't even started the building work yet and were all having periods over where we're going to find coppers from.

Thread is staying open. You opened the debate by "confirming" there would be charges, now you want to close it until they decide whether there will be charges!  Grin

In the mean time it is open for debate to anyone who wishes to express their views.

I suppose I would have to call myself a 'casual' Tonbridge fan as I watch league football as well and do shift work but do attend as much as poss and go to at least one away game a season. The recent improvement in form and general standard of football is both exciting and excellent.  Also our trip to Oxford with Gany junior was the highlight of my season (and going to the replay).

However, better players cost money. I was talking to someone at work today who knows the owner of Hampton and Richmond. Their players command a fee of up to £500 per game  and Fisher pay that as a matter of course. Our players probably aren't  on that money but it goes to show how much money has to be put into a club to succeed.

I for one am a sitter out of necessity for several reasons:

1. My son has got poor eyesight and has to watch from near the halfway line.
2. I've got a bad back .
3. If dad comes along he's an OAP with all the related problems and need s to sit.

In view of above it sounds like I'll have to pay another 50p to a £1 a game. I've not got a problem with this as long as people aren't allowed to stand in front of the seats obstructing my view which is what happens at present. Another thing I like about Longmead is that its nice to  be able to park right outside the ground for free....alot of people seem to take that for granted.

I applaud Gary and Nick both with their investment and their drive and ambition for this club. Also people like Charlie and Mike who I don't know but obviously put in alot of graft and sacrifice their own time to help run the club to provide entertainment for our leisure time. Do those people who are moaning about this give any of their time to the club or would be prepared to I wonder. If Gary is prepared to put this much into the club and we have improved facilites  then we as fans shouldn't moan about paying a couple of quid a game extra .

As has already been said a winning team will pull in the punters and people will expect good ground facilities which will in turn encourage them to return. The new seats are welcome in my opinion as the current seating is very limited as some of the seats have a rather restricted view.

Tonbridge have a good catchment area from surrounding villages. There are at least two people I know who travel from my old home village of Marden. Paddock Wood is only one stop away which is a small town in itself. I believe that if the team continues to perform next season and with the right amount of publicity you could easily see gates of 6 -700 per match.

I think the seat sponsoring idea is worth a go and would bring in some revenue, with sponsors being allowed free seating for all  game throughout the season.

Come on you Angels!
