Ground Improvements - Seating

After everyone having a different opinion yesterday about what was actually going to happen with the new seating. I spoke to nick this morning to clarify it all.

There will be between 6-700 seats going in. These will be all blue (no pattern/lettering) They will fill the WHOLE stand. The ends will be modified so if you are right at the end you can still have a view of the whole pitch. There will be gates at either end so if you want to walk through from one end to the other you'll have to round the back as its pay extra to sit down.

Having to pay extra to sit down is a real shame..

We have many fans who are unable to stand for the full match, through minor disabilities or age (young or old) and for them and their families/friends to have to pay extra to sit is very very sad.

Going to away grounds and having to pay to sit in the stand always makes me feel quite bitter and I never do, although it is my preferred view. I am quite small, which limits what I can see if I stand at some grounds without terracing.

This is very disappointing news especially coupled with the increased entry fee.

Are we looking at 50p/£1 extra to sit or more?

It is nice to have the option of sitting, provided it is not over priced. Is it possible you could find out just how much extra MikeOW please?

Lets hope Longmead doesn't end up looking like a lot of league 2 clubs on matchdays, big shiny seating areas with no-one sitting in them.

How will the extra money be collected? Will there be a steward collecting pound coins as you get to the stand or will you have to buy a diferent ticket at the turnstyles?

Im not sure how much yet or the method in which the extra payment will be taken. I guess theyll have a steward on the gates to the stand.

I cant see it being more than a pound

However when you think about it...
A) We have an ever better squad with alot of improvements coming that will be announced over the next few weeks. Which will result in hopefully better football and everyone enjoying more.
B) Improvements are costing over 100k need to get some of that back
C) Nearly all other grounds charge to sit
D) our admission prices have been raised to sit in-line with most other clubs in this league next season
E) The majority of people who sit will be those who are paying £3 or £5 not the £10. They wernt' hit as hard with the raise in admission, only a pound raise whereas adults had a 2 quid raise.

And to answer the bit about disabled. 'll suggest to nick that maybe there is a disabled area of seating or something and they can get in without paying? Or any other suggestions anyone has.

However the end of the day... it will be pay to sit and with the club moving forward, if you want to see us have a good squad, then they need good wages. Which at the end of the day we mostly pay for. Thats just the way football is.

That would be really good, as some of the disabilities people have don't always require a wheelchair.

This development is a major disappointment, and it's a shame that it appears no supporters have been consulted for their views on the idea.

With all due respect to Mike, you don't pay anything to get in, so it's difficult to take your opinion too seriously.

There is a group of supporters, by no means a majority, but significant enough, that now face a £3 increase to their admission fees for next season. IF this statement is confirmed by a club official, the club will find those supporters that have to sit simply not turning up at all, rather than pay £11 to watch a Ryman Premier Division team.

It seems a bit of a backwards step to fill nearly a third of the ground with seats but put people off wanting to sit there - this is our biggest opportunity to fill that stand with families and groups of schoolkids and build for the future. Is there anyone at the club with a realistic grasp of how much it costs to watch the club over a season? I'm estimating it at about £500-600 just on admission and money spent inside the ground.

I'm not sure exactly where Mike has conducted his research about "nearly all other grounds charge to sit" but I seem to have noticed a trend against charging for seats. I can only think of a handful of grounds where I am unable to walk through a seated stand to reach the opposite end. Perhaps rather than making flippant statements about "nearly all grounds charge to sit" we could have some sort of real evidence that this is the case. Or someone who actually sits at games could provide us with a more realistic idea?

Where is the research about "the majority of people will pay £3 or £5"? Is this relevant anyway?

Also, while we're here, any thoughts on the increase to £10 for admission next season, especially those with families?

I would like to see an official from the club come on here and make a better defence of this plan, as I see a lot of loyal supporters being alienated now.

Dan, I am a club official and have spent about 2 hours on the phone to nick today just talking about this issue.
So ignore me if you wish but me or Charlie are the only officials that will come on here to answer.

I have just got off the phone AGAIN to nick and all i'll say is hes quite disappointed himself.

The club are spending 100k, half of which is coming out of Garrys pocket.
We are raising admission prices for the first time in near on 4 years, to bring us in-line with basically what all clubs will be charging next year.

A decision is yet to be made on the prices etc for seating. Nick said between 50p and a quid.
However they are going to be discussing this along with other ideas at the next baord meeting.
Ive just suggested to Nick maybe if you ahve bought a programme then you can sit for free. So the programme is almost like a voucher to get into seating as well. Again this idea will be discused at the next board meeting.

This is a step forward for the club, an improving squad needs improving finances, a better performing squad wil bring in more fans. Simple.
Its an on-going circle.

It will be interesting to see next year how many clubs do charge less than 10.
Optionally you could go and watch Wimbledon and pay £13 to sit.

Not that simple - if people can't afford to go to as many games they won't turn up.

just sitting here drinking my cawfee reminds me we had the same debate last time prices went up, from 7 to 8 what 3 years ago? if i understand this right its now going to £10 ?

thats an extra £42 a year for 21 league games or less than a pint or a packet of fags every game, is that REALLY too much? sadly things do go up never down (look at bloody petrol) eeee when i was a lad a mars bar was 9 old pennies (4.5np) now thay are what ,65 pence bloody disgraceful .

bottom line first few games people will moan, then if we have a good team who are winning it will all get forgotten. and if we are losing then it gives some more to complain about.

when you think we paid 9 quid last year to get in some right **** holes it sounds like we are going to have aground to be proud of.guess thats the price of success.
