Angels Res 4 Godalming Town 2
« on: Thursday, 01 May, 2008, 22:41.01 »

The first half of this league match against Godalming Town is probably best forgotton. We failed to produce the kind of football we are capable of, despite fielding five first teamers.

The lack of effort, movement, talking and passing meant we went into the half time break 1-0 down to a very mediocre side.

James Donovan managed to get booked for a soft foul that was barely a foul, and certainly not a yellow card.

Matt Crane came on for Dan Bowles for the second half.

Happily the side responded to what was said at the break and began to play to their capabilities with Michael Phillips and Tommy Tyne influential in midfield and Donovan and Crane at the back. On 52 minutes Ashley Dann received the ball on the edge of the box and drilled it home to make it 1-1.

Mickey Collins made it 2-1 with a neat header and the game seemed quite comfortable.

The introduction of Alex Rich and Matt Newman brought a new lease of life to the midfield and the game of football became so much easier on the eye.

Tommy Tyne made a great run down the left and his pinpoint cross on 83 minutes found Collins who skilfully headed home for our third and his second.

Godalming made it 3-2 against the run of play when we lost possession on our right which led to the Godalming forward scoring well.

The best goal of the match  however went to James Donovan when he struck an unstoppable shot from outside the box powerfully into the top corner of the net, unfortunately the same player then conceded a penalty  within three minutes. Luckily for Donovan Martin Grant saved the resulting penalty.

If that is to be Mickey Collins last game for Tonbridge then it was nice for him to finish with a brace. Theres never a quiet moment with Mickey in the dressing room and a funny moment tonight was when a lady in her later years shouted out to Mickey that he deserved what he got when fouled at the top of her voice, even made Mickey look up in amazement.

Team: Grant, Starkey, Donovan, Bowles (Crane 45), Butler, Johnson (Rich, A 75),
Phillips, Tyne, Brock, Collins, Dann (Newman 75)
Subs: dnp Dixey, Dix

Goals: Dann 52, Collins 55, 83, Donovan 89

Bookings: Donovan 30

Just a shame that he couldn't have bagged that hat-trick goal, would've been the perfect send off! Good luck with whatever you choose to do next Mickey! Afro

Great goal by Donners towards the end of the game as well. Cheesy

No, they're playing a home game 'away' - final home game is Tuesday night.
