This was always going to be a tough fixture against second placed Corinthian Casuals, the dry uneven surface at Longmead didn't help our cause.
After our cup win in the week it was definately a case of 'After the Lord Mayors Show'. Our first half display was certainly not one of our best highlighted by two free headers in front of goal giving the Casuals a 2-0 half time lead.
The second half was much better and all round the movement and effort was good to see. Unfortunately we couldn't alter the scoreline, in fact Casuals could have scored again had it not been for a fine save from Martin Grant who really had nothing to do in the second half.
Bobby Dixey worked hard up front and Danny Bowles was solid at the back but even though Casuals went down to ten men, due to injury, we couldn't break through.
We fielded a young side with two sixteen year olds and two seventeen year olds, who all did well. The referee took seven names in a game that barely warranted a booking.
We need to pick ourselves up for Monday night, away to Epsom & Ewell, and keep pushing for promotion.
Team: Grant, Butler, Bowles, Johnson, Brock, Funnell (Blundell 86), Rich, N, Dix (Poynter 80), Rich A (Biddlecombe 61), Newman, Dixey Bookings: Dix 41, Butler 44, Newman 44
