RYL Angels 2 Croydon Athletic 3
« on: Thursday, 24 April, 2008, 22:27.44 »

The match started well and with a quick tempo. Ian Brooke earned a free kick when clinically taken out on the edge of the box, Alex Daly placed the resulting kick around the wall to open the scoring after just 8 minutes.

We looked capable of going on to dominate the match but for some unknown reason switched off and let Croydon equalise, again we had a number of chances to clear the ball.

The half then changed when a high boot in the box on Ashley Dann, resulting in him leaving the field with a very bloody nose, this turned out to be a nasty cut and suspected broken nose. The referee deemed fit to play on with no foul given and the resulting solo run from Alex Daly led to an individual goal of high standard.

Josh Biddlecombe replaced the unlucky Dann who onced cleaned up was off to the hospital.

The second half leading 2-1 we expected Croydon to put us under pressure but a nasty tackle on Jon Hampson which resulted in Hampson leaving the field with a nasty stud mark down his shin, no free kick given again. Will Jagger replaced Hampson.

Whether it was the lack of concentration or just good Croydon play, they equalised to set up an exciting finish.

Alex Daly was very unlucky not to get his hatrick when he hit the post with some clever work on the edge of the box and Charlie Sharman could have done better when one to one with the keeper.

Football can be a cruel game and the ball went from one end of the pitch to the other, a fortunate corner for Croydon and they headed the winner with only a minute to go.

We do need to learn how to be stronger when in the lead and learn how to finish games off, especially in front of goal, hopefully the fortune will go our way next time.

Fingers crossed as we wait on news from the hospital on Ashley Dann.

Team: Busby, Rich, Eaton, Hampson (Jagger), Lucas, Daly, Brooke, Poynter,
Humphreys, Dann (Biddlecombe), Sharman
Subs: Funnell, Willoughby
