"Just to put the record straight for any Chelmsford supporters the goal was very unfortunately scored by our MOM Tommy Tyne and not by a Chelmo player."

Au contraire. I was standing behind the goal just a few yards away and I can assure you that the ball entered your net directly from the boot of Mario Noto.

But don't just take my word for it. This is from the report of the game on the Chelmsford City Official Website-

"City sent a succession of corners into the Tonbridge danger zone in a late spell of dominance and Noto played a one-two with Lawson in injury time before fizzing a low shot through the legs of dumb-struck ‘keeper Reed and into the net to steal the points."

Yes, Chelmo are a good side, probably the best side we've faced but am I the only one that thought we matched them yesterday? We definitely didn't deserve to lose IMO, and the way it occured.... absolutely gut-wrenching. My only fault with the lads was that we dropped far too deep in the final 10 minutes and kinda invited pressure on us.

The spine of the team really is looking very good at the minute - Reedy made some outstanding saves, Bealesy and Donners solid as ever and made some brilliant last-ditch challenges, Stoz and Tommy Tyne running the show in the middle of the park.

I liked Brayley and Lawson, Chelmo's two strikers, thought they caused us problems all afternoon. Noto, when he came on too, ran us ragged.

Still gutted about yesterday but we can still make the playoffs... victories against Harrow and Hendon would set us up nicely for the two big games vs 'Ricay and Hornchurch. Smiley

I was largely unsighted for their goal and would appreciate the views of anyone better placed to explain exactly what happened.

From where I was watching the "shot/cross" was pretty tame and 2 of ours tried to clear it before it went past Matt into the goal.In fact after he had retrieved the ball from the back of the net Reedy put his arm around Tommy as if to console him for the freakish nature of the goal. I took this as a sign that Tommy had swung a leg at the ball possibly diverting it past the keeper who actually stood stock still as it went into the net.

In spite of the rubbish on the Chelmo site citing Noto's "Strike" it looked like a freakish goal from our vantage point and more like a hopeful cross than a shot.

On a more positive note one of the reasons why I was not paying full attention to yesterday's game and missed some of the action was because I was with an old friend of mine and the Angels Mr. Simon Piper, who some of you will remember, used to write our reports for the program and did such a good job that he ended up working for the "Kent & Sussex Courier".

Simon moved to Scotland some  years ago but keeps in touch and he was very impressed at how our club has progressed since he's been away. Particularly the standard of football we are now playing .
When you hear these comments from an exile who has been away as long as Simon, it does make you think that we really do take for granted the great job done by all those associated with the club since we regained our place in the Southern League.

The gloom that descended on Longmead after the final whistle yesterday just shows how far we have come that we can be disappointed about not beating the run away champions of the Ryman Premier Division.

Simon is hoping to return for the play off games and sends his best wishes to those he couldn't say hello to yesterday.

er, no, that is not quite what happened...

You were right lucky bar stewards on Saturday but fair enough to be this far ahead by the end of March means that you clearly deserve the title.

And from what sort of distance did you view the action, BtG....
