Losing players
« on: Tuesday, 20 September, 2005, 09:38.11 »

It seems once again Tonbridge Reserves cannot hold on to players for more than a season. Players are never allowed to get settled in the squad and the constent playing of "Golden Boys" is still going on..........

As a member said the other day bring back the players that are keen to put on a Tonbridge shirt. The attitude of management is poor.....

Hold on a minute, most of the squad from last season's reserves havent stayed on purely because the club wouldnt keep the impressive duo of Alan Burns and Mike D'Arcy. They all would have loved to stay at the club no doubt. Only 4 players that were in the Angels reserves last season stayed on and now 2 of those 4 have gone to Tun Wells.

The management lead them to the Cup Final and finished 6th in the Suburban league...Sam D'Arcy has joined his dad Mike at Tun Wells, alongiside Mike McKeown and Alex Gregory because they liked playing for Mike and Alan. Its not down all down to the curent management at all, they are trying hard to assemble a good young squad which doesnt happen overnight. Besides, like JM said, there are alot of players in the reserves at present to fill the gap, what does that show you...alot of players really want to break into the team, not leave!

Your either an ex player wich had no hope of getting in a team or you have no idea around a game of football.

This impressive due as you so call them. what did they win??? Who have they brought to the club other than posh high class school boys in tonbridge....

It was run as a sunday league side when only the local lads get a game. This storey has again continued into the next season, players of real ability have left this club because of this management and are sick to the teeth of having lack luster players infront of them.

Tonbridge Need a strong manager who plays players who are on form not the players who's dad is involved or had been!!!!

Such players like Charlie Hawks, James Burns, Tom Haverson, Tom Creasey, all respected lads that are good players have been forced from tonbridge with this management.  My opinoin it needs sorting.....

I'm getting a bit confused.

Last season the Managers of the Reserves were Mike D'Arcy and Alan Burns. This season the Managers of the Reserves are Julian Leigh and Kevin Goldsmith. So the management of the team has completely changed.

Last season the Reserve team was not able to be used as a 'filter' for players to the first team and this season it has been said that it will be run correctly.

At the end of last season as far as i know - only three of the Reserve players stayed on to continue into the Reserves. This years squad as far as i can tell is made up of the older U18's from last season, some new additions from Sevenoaks and maybe some from G'End and Nthfleet? Plus others that have come on merit from other clubs. I think the squad is around 40 strong.

This does seem excessive, but if you look at the U18's from last season and the exhorbitant amount of games they had to play including cup matches, they had a huge squad and were still severley depleted towards the end of the season by serious and not so serious injuries.

Angels want to be highly competitive. With a squad this size it is bound to mean that there will be a lot of players not selected, or warming the bench on a regular basis. Someone will always be disappointed.

Hopefully, this season with the extra coaches etc, all we can hope is that the lads will all get thier chance to shine. They train atleast twice a week i think, and hopefully the coaches with fresh eyes will spot the players that may have been previously overlooked.  Smiley

Frankie123, all Im saying is that the current management duo are new to Angels and need to assemble a good squad. As for the players you mentioned, yeah they would be great in the reserves, but how come they havent come back, I mean everyone is seemingly getting a chance to play at reserve level.
I take it your one of those boys' mates? Yes, Charlie Hawks is a good footballer, but has he gone back to Dartford? Tom Creasey was given a chance but didnt come back and James Burns is the same, he might not have impressed the managers and someone else was given a chance due to the huge squad of seeing who can play in certain positions.

So, you think Mike D'Arcy and Alan Burns werent successful? I can tell you that everyone enjoyed playing for them but its sounds as if you didnt...which means you were a player that didnt play? If you can find a better coach around here at this level than Alan Burns then you find him and tell him to manage the reserve side!

They werent kept on because the board felt that more U18s were going into the 1st team rather than reserves, thats a shame but if if the reserves had provided players to the 1st team more often last season, would they have finished 6th in the league and reached a cup final?...I dont think so.

Frankie, you must be some kind of Dick Head.

James Burns was not good enough either with last seasons or this seasons management team, coincidence!

Alan Burns was a UEFA B coach, Jay May came from last seasons Reserves and is a regular in the first team squad now.

The new manager has not had the time yet to establish himself, however on the James Burns decision alone he has my vote!
