Are we turning into a police state?
« on: Thursday, 31 January, 2008, 10:45.28 »

I didn’t attend last nights meeting however from reading Kentish football and from reports from people who did attend I was quite surprised from what I heard.

The title on Kentish football reads ‘Tonbridge clamp down on anti-social behaviour’, not TAFC fault for the title of the article however what a negative title and it does kind of suggest what the meeting was geared around! Also a very negative read.

From reading Kentish football it sounds to me from posting this alone I could get banned as I’m making derogatory comments regarding the handling of the swearing matter etc by TAFC. I for one do sometimes get fed up by the negative stuff on here however I let it go over my head as it’s peoples own opinion (the beauty of a forum surely!?). But to read that people may get banned for having an opinion is ridiculous.

Regarding getting police in, why? Are we trying to turn the place into a morgue? With the coverage the club is giving to the matter of swearing, threatening to ban people with the addition of now a police presence people will be scared to open their mouth! It has a negative knock effect, which will result in people not opening their mouth at all in fear of a slip of the tongue that will get them ejected/arrested/banned!

I personally think that since the long debate on ‘the foul mouthed few’ that there is less wearing however the atmosphere has definitely got worse (with the exception of away from home!)

Personally I think there's already a clear divide in the club's supporters, and with all this police interference etc, the divide is only going to become worse. Undecided

the police aren't going to throw out everyone who utters an expletive to themselves in the heat of the moment.  from what i read it seems they will be there to stop chanted abuse towards opponents palyers and fans, and possibly the referee.  we've had a few chants involving swearing over the past few months and this will be what the club wants to stamp out.

McCartney fails to show in that article how Nick stated that its acceptable for swearing to take place in songs as long as its in good humour, its when single people shout swear words at opposition players. or use the "c" word.

For example

You wont get thrown out for
"Who the ****ing hell are you" , "All sussex teams are full of ****" chants as they are in good humour and have always been around in football.

I think Nick will be the first to admit that its not the songs getting us in trouble its the single moments when people go off on one at the keeper or referee (even if they deserve it)

What annoyed me was when some old bloke stood up and said "they need to get some new lyrics for their songs". Its not the songs that are causing the problems. And its not the Barmy Army.
The Barmy Army go to near on every game and behave in the same way wherever they go. Do other teams throw us out? NOthey enjoy us being there. Maybe that should make people realise its not the barmy army its certain people who tag along to home games and try and join in and think thats the way to do it.

Well maybe he should come round and suggest some new ones or better still start some himself, unlikely!
