FA CUP HISTORY
« on: Thursday, 01 September, 2005, 23:39.51 »

Tunbridge Wells now face Met Police in the next round of the FA Cup.

Currently in the same position in their league as we are in ours - 3rd. This could open them a place into the Ryman League next season, along with Beckenham Town and Maidstone.

Apart from all that, they made FA Cup history last night after a draw at the end of normal time of this replay, forcing extra time, it went to an epic penalty shoot out! Final score was 16-15 to The Wells. 40 penalties were taken during the shoot out. This is now a record in the history of the FA Cup. 4 pen's for Twells and 5 for L.Hampton were either missed or saved.

The game lasted 3 hours and 10 mins, so the £5 entry fee was money well spent! FA Cup fever is truly alive. To be a home fan and watch your keeper save the 40th is just one of those sublime moments in footy  Cheesy

Well done The Wells.  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Don't be sore just cos you had to 'walk the dog' last night to earn your pocket money Mikey, therefore missing out on a game of footy  Smiley

Because The Wells made FA Cup history, and because they will be playing a team (Met Police) from our league, and because they may well be in the same league as us next season and also for 'Guests' that cannot access the Off Topic forums on here, as a footy fan i thought that the news that a local club has made history in our beautiful game is reason enough  Smiley

a few errors are forgivable but less than 100% commitment is not.

Great pic of Leroy. Tunny Wells only got a small section a few pages in. Thought that with that remarkable achievment, they may get backpage headlines or at least, a full page spread. Maybe next week....
