Fundraising Idea
« on: Thursday, 01 September, 2005, 12:34.05 »

Just been reading Dulwich Hamlet's forum and they have a Supporters Team which plays against other groups of supporters from other clubs. Each player pays £5. Dulwich Supporters XI are hosting Paris St Germain Supporters XI this weekend and are going on tour over Europe soon. I reckon this could be a brilliant idea. Can you imagine Angels Supporters XI vs Maidstone Supporters XI, Kings Lynn or Dover?!  Cheesy

There's surely 16 Angels fans that are young enough and fit enough to play against fellow supporters.

Fancy putting it across to Mr Chairman then? We would obviously need a manager. I nominate Barry Jeffrey's. We would need a ground - Longmead should do.

Out of the 350+ average home crowd, surely there are 16 that are reasonably good at footy. If there's enough support, I could organise a friendly with Dulwich just as a kinda test to see how it goes?!

I reckon this could raise a lot of extra revenue if it goes well. 16 players (£5 each) is already £80. As well as a few really sad supporters who come along to cheer us on. That's not even considering the bar takings after the event... Grin

If we play 10 games, that could be £1k - another decent player.

Lets try and be serious about this though - if it takes off, not only would it be extremely enjoyable for those involved but it could also benefit the club.

A good idea, in fact I think there was a 5-a-side team at one time some 10 -15 years ago, anyhow the point is valid, several rugby league supporters clubs play against teams of opposition fans and raise money for nominated charities etc.
Why not start a kind of supporters league.

Thanks OG, nice to know we have some support cos usually these ideas pop up and nobody carries them through. Waste of a good idea. Would be interested to know what other people think too?!

Having a look around, I see that there's quite a number of these kinds of teams. Welling, Dover and Dulwich are just three to name a few. Hopefully this could turn out to be quite a benefit to TAFC.
