Their playing squad is just staggering. Alex Tiesse, who's playing up front for them, was signed from Woking in the Conference, having previously been on the books at Millwall and described on their website as a  "former England U-18 star" - he's still only 20 years old! And then there's Junior Kadi and Peter Adeniyi who were in the Lewes team when they knocked us out of the FA Cup 2 years ago (Kadi was one of the top scorers in the Conference South last season). Gavin Rose was at Gravesend. And most of their players are youngsters on the books of Crystal Palace!

They were 7-0 up a half time against Sevenoaks. Presumably they just got bored buck2 after that
I think there might be an element of Chinese whispers about the strength of this Beckenham team.  I've copied the team from the 9-0 win off their site as follows:
Team: Tolfrey,Sinclair,Daniels,Stewart,Forbes,Ahwan,
Tiesse,Rose,Morris,Kadi,Martin
Subs:Johnson,Vines,Green,Adeniyi,Cheeseman

Rob Tolfrey is ex-Dulwich Reserves & Youth.
Dean Forbes is an average Ryman 1 player (ex Bromley/Tooting)
Errison Ahwan was a squad player at Dulwich, played mostly in the Reserves and also had spells at Croydon and Greenwich Borough.
Alex Tiesse made 2 or 3 Conference appearances at Woking but played mostly Reserve football for Woking and Dulwich.
Gavin Rose is an average Ryman 1 player (ex Dulwich, Bromley, Tooting - played a few games for Gravesend when they were still Ryman Premier)
Ryan Martin was in last season's Dulwich Youth team.
Paul Vines was a squad player at Bromley.
Jamie Cheeseman played for Dulwich Reserves and was once on the books of Swindon Town.
Last season's Dulwich Youth team included players called (Ohran) Stewart, (Dwayne) Morris & (Kobi) Johnson.  Not sure if it's those players in the Beckenham team, but as Rose & Kadi managed Dulwich Youth for the last three seasons it seems likely.
Don't know anything about Sinclair & Daniels.
So that leaves player-coach Junior Kadi & Peter Adeniyi as the only players with a real pedigree at higher than Ryman 1 level (and in the latter case that only amounts to last season).

I've heard various figures quoted regarding their wage budget, so I don't know which to believe.  It appears to be into four figures, but still relatively modest by Ryman League standards.

If they do take off I reckon it will be largely down to the management/coaching of Rose & Kadi, who are both serious professional coaches working at Southwark College, which has a full time academy team playing as Fisher Athletic Youth.  Last season the same team played as Dulwich Hamlet Youth and was funded by Southwark Council - they cut the funding and the scheme is now funded by Fisher's benefactors, hence the change in affiliation from Dulwich to Fisher.

Last season, under Rose & Kadi, Dulwich won the Southern Youth League, winning their regional division and beating Woking 3-0 and Lewes 5-2 in the knockout phase against champions of the other divisions.  Two seasons ago Dulwich Reserves won the Suburban League Premier Division, losing just one game in the second half of the season after Rose took over as caretaker-manager.

It's not uncommon for players at our level to have been on the books of professional clubs or played for England schools/juniors etc, so I wouldn't read too much into comments regarding that.  We all know that countless players appear for Palace Youth etc. and never make it any further.

I think the bottom line is that Rose & Kadi know what they're doing and they'll put their faith in young players who would otherwise have to wait for a first team chance at higher division clubs; they won't bring in the usual Kent League journeymen and they'll play entertaining attacking football.

Rose and Kadi obviously know what they're doing then. Would expect em to get promoted this season as comfortable champions. I think they're wage budget is alot higher than fellow Pub League sides but in comparison to our level, I think they have quite a competitive budget. Should be interesting to see how they progress over the next few years. Would think that they maybe able to attract large crowds over in Beckenham too cos it has quite a large catchment area.

Dean Forbes also had a couple of games with the Angels after the Walker/Hume exodus in January 2004.

I find it hard to believe it's all down to the coaching. They've only been in charge of these players for a couple of months. If they've taken average players who'd struggle to make it at a higher level and turned them into a team scoring an average of 6 goals per game with 2 months of coaching, I'd say that's a miracle! I have heard - and admittedly I don't know for certain - that these are an exceptional bunch of players who are are pretty heavily bankrolled by a wealthy benefactor. To me, that seems more credible.

As I said in my earlier post, I've heard various figures quoted in relation to Beckenham's wage bill and they're clearly paying a fair bit by county league standards.  But I'm telling you for a fact that at least six of the 16 players used against Sevenoaks were Youth/Reserve teamers at Dulwich last season (Tolfrey, Ahwan, Tiesse, Green, Martin, Cheeseman) and possibly another three(Stewart, Morris, Johnson).  None of these players has ever played more than a handful of First Team games for any Senior club, at any level, and apart from Ahwan (who's aged about 25) they're all aged 18-20.

Angels fans will have briefly seen Rose and Forbes for yourselves - would they add anything to your present team?  They're ordinary Ryman 1/good county league players.

As I said, I've never heard of Sinclair or Daniels; Vines was a squad player at Bromley.  Which only leaves Kadi & Adneiyi as players who are proven and experienced at a higher level and clearly "slumming it" in the county league.

I've watched Dulwich teams coached by Rose & Kadi regularly so I know what they're capable of, and they've worked with most of these players before.  Maybe the club is spending heavily on wages, but if so they're still spending on largely untried players.  I support Dulwich, not Beckenham - I'm not their spin doctor - and  whatever they're spending they haven't suddenly brought in lots of experienced players who could have walked straight into regular first team football at a higher level (although they may well prove themselves good enough to do so in the not too distant future).
