SIX-MONTH BAN FOR BORG
31/05/2007
George Borg, manager of Blue Square South club Braintree Town, has been hit with a mammoth six-month ban after being found guilty for his part in the 'Battle of West Leigh' against Havant & Waterlooville last season.

And Hawks boss Ian Baird has been cleared of any wrong doing following the bust-up between the clubs.

Borg (pictured) was handed the huge punishment as a result of the infamous meeting between the Hawks and his team in February.

Borg was sent-off and then launched into a furious tirade at home supporters in the match which also saw a player dismissed and a West Leigh Park dressing room wrecked.

The outspoken boss then branded Hawks cheats and bullies in the build-up to last
month's Nationwide South play-off, which Braintree won on penalties.

It's the latest in a long line of misdemeanors from Borg – one of the most controversial characters in football.

The Hawks applauded the FA's decision to hit him with the huge punishment and clear Baird's name.

Havant secretary Trevor Brock said: “I think a lot has been said by Mr Borg about what happened that day and all of it has been proved to be false.

“It's nice that we have been vindicated because our reputation as a hospitable club has been damaged.

“While he has been attacking us we have known the truth – and the FA have proved both the club and Ian Baird did nothing wrong.

“What goes around comes around. It's good to see justice done.”

Borg will be banned from any involvement in football on a matchday from July 1st until September 1st, with four months of the ban suspended for twelve months.

In effect this means he'll just miss the August games  Wink
