Squad is as follows:-
Goalkeepers:- Robinson, Green, Carson
Defenders:- P.Neville, Brown, Terry, Ferdinand, Carragher, King, Dawson, Bridge, Shorey
Midfielders:- Beckham, Bentley, Gerrard, Lampard, J.Cole, Jenas, Lennon, Carrick, Downing, Dyer
Strikers:- Owen, Crouch, Defoe, Smith
Hargreaves and Darren Bent are injured. Rooney is suspended. David Nugent misses out.
Good to see Nicky Shorey involved in the squad, had a tremendous season at Reading and really does put some excellent deliveries into the box. Brilliant to see Becks back obivously, very excited. Also pleased to see Alan Smith get a call-up.
This would be my team to play Brazil next Friday (which coincidentally I'm going to!)...

I thought that McClown was building an England team for the future. Will Beckham be part of the 2010 England World Cup Team? Unlikely. So why put him back in the squad now or is it purely to try and save McClown from the axe?

Having a different point of view to someone else does not automatically mean idiocy
Beckham may well be playing well for RM at the moment but next season he will be in some tin pot Yank league which will hardly test his ability and therefore, in my opinion, means he will be lacking in the edge needed to play at the highest level. He may of had flashes of brilliance in the last World Cup but he's no longer a world class player.
Time for McClown and England to look to the future.

I think the biggest part of our play that has been lacking since the world cup has been our inability to create chances and score goals. Excluding the Andorra home and away games I think we scored two in six games!
This is the bigest part of Beckhams game so why not draft him back in and solve this problem. On set pieces alone he could score or create the killer ball that gets us a goal, I lost count when watching us play Croatia every free kick and corner just float in with no pace and just wasted! It's all well and good planning for the future but surely we need the best players to get us where we want to be.
Ok, he may or may not figure in next summer's tournament (if we get there) or after but his performances at the moment warrant a place which is more than we can say about a few of the current squad.

Touched a nerve have I Gazza? Would you have said the same if Tony Dolby had said iti? I forgot how good T&T aand Ecuador are!! I stand by my remark . I agree he has been very good in recent matches for Real but don't forget that their manager also said he wouldn't play him again this season and that wasn't because he was playing so well!!
He has hardly been amazing in the matches that mattered later in the tournaments has he?
Also to say he was the only one trying have you ever seen John Terry ? and I'm not a Chelsea fan.
I hope I'm wrong, but in the matches that realy matter I doubt it.i
