Tonbridge Angels U14 today played Mole Valley Predators at Chipstead's Stadium in Surrey. The game kicked off at 2.30pm in pouring rain on a pitch that had been played on less than an hour before!
The lads started brightly and for the first 15 minutes were very much on top. A couple of scoring chances went begging before Predators took hold of the game and the half ended with our keeper being the busier of the two. Half time 0-0.
The second half began as the second with Angels doing most of the pressing. Again a couple of scoring chances went begging including a one one one with their keeper who saved the shot with his legs. As the half wore on it became more of a midfield battle with both defences holding strong. 15 minutes before the end of the game the ball fell to a Predator player who hit a 20 yard shot which flew towards the goal like an exocet missile. Our keep got a hand to the ball and pushed it onto the post. Unfortunately, the ball flew off the post and into the Angels net. 1-0 to Predators. This was terrible luck for our keeper as he did well to get a hand to it at all.
The lads did everything they could to get back in the game and were now having most of the play with Predators on the back foot. They were though always dangerous on the break.
Try as we could, even with our keeper foraging into their penalty box to try and get on the end of a couple of free kicks, we just could not breach Predators defence. The game finished Tonbridge Angels 0 - 1 Mole Valley Predators.
This was a great final to watch with both teams playing some great football. The neutrals in the ground commented on the spirit in which the game had been played and both teams were warmly applauded off. The lads should hold their heads up high they did great getting to a second county cup final in as many years. It just wasn't our day.
That is now the seasons end and with results in the KYL going against us today we have now finished in a credible fourth position. Thanks for a fantastic effort lads. You did the club proud.
