We did indeed finish 19th last season, but we're all in this league on merit. Fleet traditionally have been a strong Wessex League side, but have always flattered to deceive when making the step up to the Southern/Isthmian League.

We seem to always get a new manager and squad every close season. This year we've tried to do it a little different with the appointment of Andy Sinton. Andy was a player for us last season, but unfortunately spent much of the time on the bench injured. To his credit he always turned up and took his time studying what it takes to compete in this league.

We also appointed an experienced assistant who has brought in players that he knows. Bare in mind we lost many of our experienced players in the close season including our 2 players of last season. We've no star names and we've very much taken the attitude that we need players who want to play for Fleet and not for the money.

Hopefully what you'll get from us is honesty and hard work. It's going to be a very competitve league this year and why should we go to places like Longmead or Dover or Kingstonian or Leatherhead or Horsham or Tooting or Met Police and lie down and have our tummies tickled. You're all gonna have to work hard to beat us.

With regard to us being sh*t. I admit we're no Brazil and we're always going to be up against it when we go to the places I mentioned above. You'll find lots of direct football in this league. I watched the video clips from the Dover v Dulwich game and Dover looked very direct to me. Tin hats all the way this season. We've tried playing football for the last couple of years and frankly it didn't work. We'll defend with our hearts and try and play football at the right end of the pitch this season.

Andy has added a great deal of professionalism to the side and the lads will know exactly the jobs they have to do whenever they take the field. We'll be honest and resilient. All we need now is someone who can score 30 goals for us.

Of course that could all be rubbish and we may just have had a lucky result on Saturday. We've had a few good results at Longmead through the years.
