Down here in the sunny algarve midweek games don't ever seem to kickoff before 830pm and a 930pm start is not uncommon! Opinion is divided on whether this is a good idea but in general it means that part-time players are not trying to scrounge time off work and supporters can go home after work, have their dinner and then awa' to the game. And then of course still go to the pub afterwards.
There are also never any games on holidays or holiday weekends eg over Christmas New Year and Easter. Why? Because it's a holiday.
And if you think Sky TV mess up kickoff times, all Portuguese Superliga games are at the behest of the TV companies and kickoff times and dates are not confirmed until the week before the fixture. So , typically, we get one live game on Friday night, two on Saturday night, one on Sunday night and one on Monday night all taken at 7 days notice from the published block of games. The other five games are on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. The lower divisions and leagues are ignored by TV.
The Portuguese branch will be visiting UK this weekend and will be present at Saturday's game and also Monday. I look forward to all those offers of beer promised upon my return.
