'Treatment for a typical mid-shaft fracture usually involves the use of a plaster cast to immobilise the injury site for 12 to 16 weeks.' Doesn't sound good does it.

Its just the plural of fracture and has a longer recovery time with higher risks of complications and may need surgery Nurse Victoria (Which I will be officially in February once the damn NHS can find me a job having paid £20000 to train me!)
