Warren scored a left-foot cracker, as described by MikeIde and a Barnesy free-kick was deflected over the keeper for the second.

it was a cracker .... standing near the touchline he then shouted to either aris(sitting in stand) or sullivan/barry jeffrey , that was so sweet i didnt feel it

and his left foot  Shocked

ETFC starting side were a tough outfit. Also one of the noisiest lot ive heard in ages. Our players seemed somewhat intimidated by their verbals. The number 9 was a major whinger.

Their last 2 goals were gifts - forgivable errors by rookies Hollyoake & Goldsmith. The latter where he mis-threw the ball out to a striker. Both redeemed themselves with overall good performances. Goldsmith made one tremendous point-blank save.

Dolby turned the game when he came on with other notable performances from Jon Heath, Luke and Warren. Wazza's goal shows he has the class we have all been eager t to see. lets hope theres a load more this season where that came from.

The combination of a VERY small pitch and cramped midfield meant Lye & Barnes didnt get much of a look-in.

Without a doubt we deserved a draw

a few errors are forgivable but less than 100% commitment is not.

Leave off Bert! He will be fine this season in Div 1 and it will give him the time to get back to the player he was the season before last  angel. And as for Luke having the flashes of brilliance then doing too much and losing possession - how about a bit of back up for him  Roll Eyes?

I'm sure the oppo must have been tough today, so give the lads some credit.

Moan about too many 'friendlies'?  I've already said there is no such thing, however too many matches out of season can be played to ill effect  Tongue

i think bert was too blame for the first two due to being caught out of position

not sure on the first goal - seemed like a good ETFC move down the right and low cross finished off on the far post.
but definately Matt H sent a square ball cross the area which didnt carry to Bert and led to the second goal. Not Berts fault (that one anyway!).

its not a case of laying off Bert -or laying on him. The simple fact is he is a weak linkj and no I am not confident he will 'do it ' this season.
Im afraid football is a game in which sentimentality has no place. yes he was a fan favourite undesrstandably so. Now we either need to give heath a chance or find a new LB.

As for Luke no one is criticising his skill or effort its just he seems to be trying to do too much. But Ive said before I think he should start up fron with Warren next saturday .

as for the rest of the lads tthey were given a lot of credit  as many of them played well.

The4 ETU no 9 highlighted the one thng we do lack which is a big striker who is an aerial threat and can hold the ball up- wouldnt mind having him....

We don't need any more strikers. May, Huggins, Piscina, Powell and Haughton are all good enough to score goal in this division, IMO.

Agreed, if I had to make any slight adjustments to the squad, it would be Bert out and another quality left-sided player coming in......

I don't mean lay off Bert just for arguments sake. How i see it is, that at the end of the season before last he won Fans Player of the Season. He was struck down with a nasty injury from which it takes a very long time to recover. My reasoning is -was it down to sentimentality that he was kept on last season during our time in the Premiership?   Undecided

We still need Bert. Depending on what formation the Manager is going to use this season at least it gives us options, which we did not have last season.  Our squad is bigger. Let's not be too hasty to 'get rid' of players. Is Bert really paid that much?  Huh

The qualities i see in Bert are - 100% committment. Footballing brain. Strength on the ball. Body and mind strength agaist the type of oppo we will be facing in Div 1.

Jay may will hold the ball up and win headers but cant use the ball at his feet, he wont score goals but could be a useful asset to have ... Powell will have to start as a right back as with crampy out beales is covering in the middle, only other right backs are razor and smithy, smithy showed he is a class midfielder so we'll wont him there and plus hes injured for first two games

Dont expect to see razor up front for first few weeks (unless they bring Hollyoak into the equation)

No, we don't need Bert. That is the point. I feel that Jon Heath is much better equipped at this moment in time. It's all well and good, Bert having those skills but Jon Heath can actually run, is powerful in the air, likes to attack, great in the 40/40 challenge and has an enormous future ahead of him........Bert would be no loss to TAFC, IMO.
