Not so Friendly

Angels have had a lot of pre- season 'friendlies'. I don't think there is such a thing as a 'friendly' for a football match. Each team wants to win and each player wants to impress.

The biggest danger is injuries that will be sustained. I heard last night that Cramp is likely to be out for 6 weeks following an injury to his knee at Folkestone last weekend. In the same match Smith received a nasty bang to his ankle and the swelling is there for all to see in the photo in the gallery.

We all like to see some pre-season games. But with the risk of losing players for the start of the season, is it worth it to play so many? Huh

Definitely not., I've never come across so massive a pre-season programme. I'd like to know what the reasoning behind it is?

1. Get the players 'gelling' together?!

2. Create more revenue for TAFC?!

3. More footy for us fans to watch?!

1. The players can 'gel' during well controlled training sessions
2. There is always the money ofcourse

is understandable that the club should try to maximise pre season revenue but i feel this has been taken too far

all games and the squad have had very few training sessions. so much of the character within good teams is built around the banter that you can get at training....

also a bit unfair on the players/ triallists trying to break into the side, as the management often watch them for 5 mins at the end of the match, when the game is often all but finished. Surely a few 90 minute training sessions should be a better way to judge a player? Huh

Extra revenue has backfired, in recent years you could expect 150+ at the home friendlies but the Aveley game was under 100 and there weren't that many against Fisher and Eastbourne either.

12 'friendlies' in all it will be once we have played East Thurrock. As I have commented previously, I reckon this is 4 to 5 too many.

If Teletext is to be believed Steve Aris has also picked up a knock. The club shouldn't be in the position of having so many walking wounded before the season has even started and with 50 + games to go. Huh

Probably because Aveley aren't the most glamorous team in the world to face in a pre-season friendly. They don't have an awful lot of support either. I think fixtures vs Tunny Wells, where there is a tin-cup trophy to play for and a fierce rivalry with Maidstone would attract a few more numbers.....

I expect a fair few may turn up as seagull spotters tonight, wanting to see how the boys perform.

Fierce rivalry with Maidstone? Shocked

They are not in our league, maybe next season though Undecided

Let's hope the Angels don't get anymore casualties from tonight's game. Good luck lads
