Youngest Player?
« on: Monday, 11 September, 2006, 09:18.50 »

Yesterday, in the Chilean 1st. division, Santiago Wanderers (who don't play and never have played in Santiago) beat top side Colo Colo ( named after a famous native leader, who in turn was named after a native wildcat) one nil at home.
Colo Colo are playing in Copa Libertadores, the South American  equivalent of the Champions' League this week, so they rested most of their first team.

In the second half they brought on FOURTEEN YEAR OLD Nicolas Millan, who promptly hit a shot against the crossbar.

Has anyone ever heard of a full time professional team fielding a younger player?

Unreliably informed that someone called Eamonn Collins, aged 14 played for Brighton in the mid 1980's. Shocked

I did a little research and you're right. He's now a coach for the ladies section of the FA of Ireland.

Glad to have been able to help.I must say that even though i played for Brighton not too long before he must have played, and that i was living in Brighton at that time(Playing for Tonbridge though).I really don't remember it happening.Must have been a stunt of some kind.I'd be interesred to find out who was the manager at the time.Cheesy

I believe Catlin was the guy who managed to get Dean Saunders from Wales for the price of a train ticket and then when, i think, Derby bought him from Brighton he didn't add in a sell-on clause. How many £millions did he sell for after that?

What a muppet

 >:(Saunders was bought from Swansea i think. For about 20 grand.Sold on to Oxford,as you quite rightly say with no sell-on clause, for about 85,000.They sold him on to Liverpool for at least a million, maybe more.Crap business.Always been the same at Brighton.Thats why they don't have a ground. Cry

Liverpool bought Dean Saunders for £2.9m or thereabouts from Derby in 1991, a then British record, he was one of Souness' first signings. I know this because as a youngster I used to support the Scousers but soon grew out of the premiership nonsense! This was also the start of the Liverpool decline a few months after Dalglish quit.
