England
« on: Sunday, 03 September, 2006, 09:29.22 »

Just a training game for England - but what I would like to know is whether Gazza has eaten another of his hats after this Owen 'Eyore' Hargreaves thread before the World Cup...?

:angel:Hargreaves was ok,but 11 dustbins would have managed a 0-0 draw against Andorra coolsmiley

I still stand by my opinion that he was utter crap a couple of years back. Hell, I couldn't have been the only one who thought that as like Meadows said, the media were slating him and even the England fans were booing him at one stage.

But.......he's now one of my favourite England players, not the most entertaining but he does his job magnificently. Don't think I can remember him giving the ball away against Andorra (who by the way were woeful beyond belief!).

Macedonia will be a different test and if we could come away from that with three points, it will put us in good stead for the up and coming fixtures in September and for the remainder of the qualifying campaign.

Forget what the media thought of him, their opinion is always a joke. Steve McClaren is the golden boy right now but you can be sure they will be slating him as soon as we lose an important game, play a half-decent team and don't score more than two, or he picks a player they don't like.

Look at the disgraceful way Sven has been treated, the media appear to be brainwashing the country into thinking he was the worst manager we have ever had, when I don't think any other manager aside from Sir Alf has taken us to three successive QFs - Taylor, Robson, Revie and even Ramsay all failed to qualify for major tournaments and Venables won two competitive games out of five on home turf, but hey the gutter tabloids say SGE was crap so it must be true.  Roll Eyes

Route one, fast and furious, flanks\cross, very predictable.
At that level..... Junk.
Never win the world cup, European cup playing like that on the big stage.
But Im sure we will change our tactics accordingly.

Ex Angel Player, living working and coaching in Spain.Totally different attitude to kids football.McClaren will do nothing to evolve the English game from roll up the sleeves, run forever and stick a foot in where it hurts.Thats part of why Beckham is out,and Terry's in charge. Will soon be seen as a huge step backwards.Surely McClaren is a Scottish name.LOL buck2 police

Totally agree guerro. Maybe he knows this and will change tactis accordingly for certain matches. If not I reckon Venebles should do himself a favour and walk. Him and Robson, in recent times anyway, were the only two that got us playing the right way for that stage.

I'm afraid you are spot on.Our premiership is the most fxciting in the world. Two things though.Firstly the cut and thrust of the premiership doesn't transfer to the international scene, and secondly, there are too few quality English players in the premiership.Trying to put together a squad ot 22 isn't that easy to do.Look at the goalkeeping situation.Liverpools number three is England's number two. Also they all cheat far better than we do.Afro
