The goal-scorer was Ashley Salmon with both, he was playing his first game for a year after suffering injury in a pre-season friendly last season.

We had Scott McEwan playing his first game for 18 months after a serious injury, keep an eye on this lad as I believe he will be 1st Team material once he regains full fitness.

Ben Martin was returning after some 20 months out.

We had 3 new players to the squad, Simon Gibson, Sam Gerrett, and Jawell Ventura.

James Morgan returned after a year with Lewsham Borough.

We had 5 of the 1st Year 18's involved, Liam Woods, Billy Alton, Robert Dabner, Diamond Babamuboni, and Nathaniel Bell.

The remaining 4 players in the squad were the only ones that featured last season, Shayne Goldsmith, Craig Fermor, Jack Moore, and Matt Newman.

Was very pleased with some of the quality of football played in our first outing of the season, and particularly pleased that Ashley scored his first goal when he lobbed the goalkeeper when put through, last season he got injured scoring a goal when the keeper took him out.

The younger lads did really well, in particular Liam Woods at Centre-back. Of the new players Simon Gibson did very well.

I was pleased with the overall performance considering that I had lost the whole of last seasons defence either to the 1st Team or Reserves, or away on holiday.

When you look at who we used in the game to our game at Leyton Orient in last seasons FA Youth Cup, only Shayne in goal played. That to me shows that we do have some quality in depth in the 18's, and I include the 1st year squad. If you get a chance go and watch this side in the Kent Youth League when the season starts, they look like continuing the standard that we have become used to here at Tonbridge Angels.
