Surely if management are planning to continue with 4-3-3 then 5 strikers is a must?
One injury or suspension will leave no striker on the bench if there are only 4 Huh

But if he was going to play 4-3-3 then he doesn't need 6 quality midfielders.

Dolby
Lye
Barnes
Smith
Hambley
Parkes

You could also throw Luke into this lot.

Agreed. Current squad tends to lean towards 442, but i guess if the budget allows  Huh  then the squad could be capable of playing both ways.

Luke should be up top, especially when playing 433 and when fit heathy will be about for a midfield slot also, especially when playying 442 as the rest of the MF tend to lack natural width......

Aren't we more suited to 5-3-2? We do't have a pair of out-and-out wingers do we? How about this line-up....
John in goal obviously
Roser and Smith wing backs
Aris, Cramp, Beales (or Dolby) centre backs
Lye, Barnes, Parkes in midfield
Haughton +Piscina/Huggins/May up front

The lack of width in MF is what caused the team to play 433 last year, with considerable success (compared to when played 442)

being aggresive and closing down high up the pitch with 3 forwards seemed to prevent the opposition having so much time on the ball.

I think that this success will be taken into the new season as the management obviously feel happy with it, especially if huggins/haughton and piscina can start to develop cohesion.

352- we have the players to accomodate the system, but the managements tendancies to attack the opposition would take a back seat, as the whole formation is fundamentally designed to contain the opposition and flood the middle of the park.

442 maybe an option again, as the development of heathy and the signing of smith may provide more quality out wide this year??

i think luke was great last season on the wing, he's got a heck of a lot of pace, and can dribble, but cant we use more of a 4-3-1-2 formation with lukey slotting in behind the strikers, whoever they are!!!!!

the other week on the way to hythe we were discussin this in the car i suggested -- 3-5-2

John
Beales Aris Cramp
Smith or Piscina wide right - dolby, lye, barnes in the middle - Roser/Heath/Parkes wide left

warren and may/leroy
up top

Piscina as a wing-back! That's an interesting one - with his speed he could certainly fill the role. Remember we had this debate two seasons ago when Nick Barnes was the surprise right wing-back and was a revelation in the slot. Smiley

I certainly favour 3-5-2 with the current playing squad we have, it was ditched for the right reasons last season when we lost certain players but should now return.
