Quality left winger, great crosser of the ball. Bit of a star in our Kent League days. Had a great game against Yeovil in the FA Cup - caused them all sorts of problems........

......only played in warm weather.......  Roll Eyes

In an age of lost innocence I used to be aTrowbridge Town supporter when they were in the Southern League during the late60's/early 70's.I'm now living and working in Mexico City.I've joined your fans forum as I'm keen to find out any info you may have on ARCHIE THORBURN. When he played for us he enjoyed iconoclastic status. For such a small man he was a fantastic header of the ball and seemed to hang in the air for ages. His skills were somewhat erratic ;typically
he would beat all the opposition defenders at least twice, dribble round the goalkeeper and then trip over his own bootlaces and skew the ball horribly wide-but we loved him. He left and then rejoined us after a short spell with our bitterest enemies, Bath City. I remember the first time I ever saw Tonbridge at Frome Road
(our ground) when we tanked you 9-1. When he joined you I believe your directors fixed him up with a glamorous job labouring in a sawmill. The last time I ever saw
him, was playing for your boys on a particularly miserable winter's day at Frome Road: he looked totally knackered as Tonbridge recorded a rare 1-0 away win over us. I'd love to hear any information/anecdotes about yer man: is he still alive? Happy days!         Ivor Smith

Well Ivor just to put your mind at rest I can give you the latest on one of our greatest legends Mr. Archie Thorburn who is alive and well living in Tunbridge Wells just down the road from  the club he still holds most dear Tonbridge, not Trowbridge, although he does remember with fondness his time with the Wiltshire club.
I am proud to say that he accompanied myself and freinds to both the away fixture at Dover and the final play off games this season and loved every moment, He is as far as I know still in good health and spends much of his time attempting to outwit the local Bookies.
I will inform him of your interest.

Please keep me updated re Archie; would love to hear any news about him, and please pass on message that there is a corner of Mexico City where he is still fondly remembered.
