Kentish Observer League club Thamesmead Town have announced the signing of central defender Ryan Royston from promoted Maidstone United.
Speaking about his first signing as manager of Thamesmead, Keith McMahon said: "It's a fantastic signing for the club. I wanted to sign a big name as my first addition to the club, and you don't get much bigger than a double winner.
“Ryan was at the club on loan for a couple of months two seasons ago to get fit and he fitted in really well. He's just got a new job that would find travelling hard in the Ryman League wwith the Stones.
“He won the league and cup last year, so he brings a lot of experience to the side. He is the sort of player that I`m looking for. He can get the ball down and play. He gives me a lot of options. He can play centre back, do a holding role in midfield and also he can play up front.
“The signing of Ryan shows the ambition that the club has this year. We really want to take the club forward so is the first of a few signings this year."
Royston (pictured) joined Maidstone at the end of the 2003/04 season from Tonbridge, where he had two spells sandwiched by a stint with Dulwich Hamlet.
McMahon also announced that Anthony Potts has joined his management team as first-team coach.
McMahon said "Pottsie and I go back a long way, we used to play football together as youngsters. We both have the same opinion on how the game should be played.
“He has a wealth of experience, playing professional football at Tottenham Hotspur. He has also played for Tonbridge Angles in the Southern League so he knows what's needed to play at a higher level.
“He also knows the players very well as he played for Thamesmead a couple of seasons ago so he won't have any trouble fitting in.
“Things are starting to take shape know on and off the pitch. The pitch has had a lot of money spent on it again this year and is already looking superb. The new turn styles are in place and the new PA system is being installed next week so things are looking very positive.”

I can remember the cries of anguish when Ryan was let go and the bring Ryan back brigade.
Nice guy but never going to shine at the levels we have been at since he left. Seems he is happy in the Pub league.
have to say with our group of JB, Chopper, Lew and young Crampy he wouldnt get a look in these days
but good luck to him anyways
