yes we lost 1-0 but my MOM is Czanner because he made some good stops and didnt put a foot wrong. The goal wasnt his fault because the defence didnt clear Angry

Angels fielded Steve May, the young lad from Brighton who is here for "as long as we need him" (Nick S) while Lew is injured. John Farley was on the bench and Danny Lye was unavailable due to illness - he should be OK for Saturday though.

Ok, tonights game.
We started extremely sharply with Jon Main coming extremely close, it may be harsh but i would expect someone already scored 22 goals to finish that. Leroy hit the post from close range and there were several other chances.
They score a goal from which we should have cleared the ball on numerous occasions but didnt. The ball crashed into the crossbar twice before being finished off.

Second half we were all overthem and should have scored through Main, Logan and Smith.
Logan didnt look his usual self neither did glozier; Barnesy; Main.

the only players i felt played relatively well were Czanner Beales Smith Huggins and May when he came on.

I'd go for Leon Johnson as my MOM - mainly 1st half  Cheesy

As for Plods goal, the oppo still had his leg wrapped round Czanner's back as the ball started bouncing off the woodwork. I don't think our defence could believe the ref hadn't blown or surely they'd have put more effort into clearing!  Roll Eyes

That said, Plod looked sharper and Leon Johnson was putting such quality balls across not to mention the speed of him.

Bad night for the lads, and disappointing for the fans, but hiccups are bound to occur. So back to the drawing board for Saturday.

Positive; I'm glad to see Steve May return and Farley.  Smiley

I agree that it wasn't a great result tonight but I can't fault the effort of the team in the second half. Met Police looked strong in the first half and although we had several chances 0-1 at half time looked about right. 2nd half was a different story...we were first to the ball most times and spread it about well, just couldn't get the final ball to a blue shirt as Met Police defended deeper and tried to hit us on the break. Although we missed the chance to go top I don't feel too upset as we played better than we did last Saturday and should be back to winning ways if we play the same against Tooting.

I know it was a Tuesday night game but an attendance of 286 seems low for a game that could have taken us top.

The goal was so scarppy it was unbeleivable but we should have been 2 up with both Jonno and leroy missing golden chances.

I think last night wwas anothe Fleet where we had a lot of possesion but no gaols except last night I dont think we made the keeper make a save in the second half.
Also after a bright first 20 mins we disapeared and they made all the running

I thought it showed up our one weak area which is lack of depth in midfield. First half we missed Danny so bad. He is our defensive ball winning midfield simple. Dobla is more of an attacking midfielder which means Barnsey has to do more of the grunt work negating his creative role. Smudger Im afraid is too lightweight-he hardly ever wins a tackle or header (watch him) although again going forward he looks good. Fraser didnt look on top form last night and struggled to beat his man and deliver the quality crosses we expect of him.

Things defintely changed at half time with the introduction of Jay. Yes his finesse is lacking but as Brian pointed out he creates havoc. Their no 5 won every header until Jay came on and knocked him off his stride. BUT we didnt have a midefielder on the bench and thus played with 3 forwards and moved fraser inside. If we had some alternative midfield options we could possibly have created some real chances. As it was it was only the odd occasion when it was played on the floor that we really looked threatening. Last night we really missed being able to bring Luke off the bench

On balance of possesion I thought we deserved a draw no more or less. Plod were very good going forward (as they were at their place) sadly this game we didnt put their dodcgy keeper under enough scrutiny.

Good to see Steve May back as once he settles down he will be a good fill in for Lew- if only Lee Carey had come as well.

Still its not all doom -still second with a game in hand and Dover only managed a draw and if you check their forum their fans are so pissed off with the poor quality of football - least we dont have that.

So lets hope it back to winning ways Saturday.

One last thing- is it me or does anyone else get peed off with our tried and failed kick off tactic- one touch back-hoof it to the right wing-lose possesion. In the pre season we actually tried passing it around and it worked. Now we may as well just lump it straight to the keeper. just a minor groan but it sets the tone for the game.
ah well only 3 days to saturday

How did I get on here

the Angels worked hard and deserved at least a point, the plod were a reasonable, well organised side who played a familiar Ryman style with big players in key areas which often works against a passing side.
oh well, forget it now, its gone, look forward to T&M on saturday and hopefully 3 points
