This full-blooded cup tie ended all square after 90 minutes of frequently frantic football, a penalty for each side being the only goals. Walton's Lee
Riddell converted his spot kick ten minutes from time to peg back Tony Dolby's 11th minute opener for the Angels.
With Lenny Piper and Steve Sodje cup-tied, Dolby opted for a 4-4-2 formation with himself at the rear of a a midfield "diamond". Anthony Hogg and Danny Lye
formed the central pairing, with Brendon Cass playing mostly "in the hole" behind the strike pairing of Luke Piscina and Jay May.
There was plenty of action at both ends in a see-saw first half. The Swans could have gone ahead in only the second minute when John Beales cleared off the
Angels line after Jamie Turner had partially blocked Scott Edgar's shot. Dolby put Tonbridge in front when Sean Thurgood handled Hogg's shot inside the box,
but Walton came back with Thurgood and Mark Nwokeji going close. Swans 'keeper Nick Gindre got down to hold May's header when the Angels striker found
himself unmarked, then flung himself to his right to touch away Dolby's drive after a corner was only partially cleared. May also hit the side netting from
a good position following a neat interchange of passes with Piscina.
Tonbridge had another chance to extend the lead late in the half when the ball fell to Cass in a good position, but Gindre beat out his effort and it was
the visitors who ended the half on the attack. Turner raced out to head clear with Tonbridge looking for an offside flag, then John Farley got in a crucial
block on Nwokeji's shot.
The Angels applied heavy pressure in the second half and looked favourites to add to their tally. A succession of shots were blocked by defenders early on,
Hogg glanced just wide from Lye's cross, and Gindre saved from May, Cass, then May again. The Swans gradually clawed their way back into it as the half wore
on, Turner having to save well from Nwokeji before Riddell earned a replay when referee Crouch adjudged Walton sub Wes Goggin to have been tripped by
Beales.
Tonbridge created enough chances to have won this tie at the first attempt, but on the day just didn't have enough firepower to put the Division 1 team
out.
