The Angels succumbed to a second consecutive defeat in all competitions are failing to hit the target often enough against 10-man Yeading. Tony Dolby’s men
created enough opportunities and could have won the game comfortably, but for some lacklustre finishing in front of goal. A poor attendance of only 110
witnessed the match.
The hosts were in control from the word go and once again, the Kent side got off to a dreadful start when Errol Telemaque gave the home side the lead after
only six minutes on the clock. He headed down from Alex Stanley’s left-sided cross which Jamie Turner could only parry into the top corner. The Tonbridge
shot stopper will be disappointed that he hadn’t kept out what was a routine header. The visitors had a half chance when Farley’s volley was blocked and
Searle’s header went sailing over the bar but Yeading continued to pile on the pressure. Yeading’s dominance took a blow mid way through the opening period
when Davis Haule was dismissed after using an elbow, in an incident with skipper Danny Lye. However, Yeading were not to be denied and maintained their
ascendancy with DJ Campbell breaking clear moments later but was denied by an onrushing Turner.
Campbell was once again the danger man and showed why he is one of the league’s top goal scorers when he made sure of the victory just five minutes into the
second half. He stabbed home after Michael Barima’s shot was parried by Turner after a superb counter-attack from Stanley. Yeading sacrificed a striker with
a substitution to preserve their advantage, but found the deficit reduced on the hour mark when Luke Piscina hooked home after Danny Lye’s flick on at the
near post from a long John Beales throw. This piece of individual genius came too little, too late for the visitors. With Tonbridge dominating and pressing
for an equaliser, Yeading had to absorb the pressure.
Matt Lee had a golden opportunity to make himself a hero when he flashed his shot wide of the foot of the post. Good interplay between substitute Brendan
Cass and Anthony Hogg set up the shot in the 75th minute. Yeading broke away yet again late in the game but Barima’s shot was easily dealt with by Turner,
somewhat making up for his error in the first half.
The Angels will be disappointed after another poor display. However they can take away some good points with positive performances coming from Danny Lye and
Luke Piscina. Their next trip will be to Leyton next Tuesday where they will be hoping to pick up their first win in four matches.
