Folkestone Invicta 2-0 Tonbridge Angels

The Angels six-match unbeaten streak finally came to a disappointing end at the hands of Kent rivals Folkestone Invicta. Goals from Simon Glover and Adam Flanagan gave the home side a comfortable three points at a windy Westbourne Stadium on Tuesday night, which saw the return of Anthony Hogg to his old stamping ground.

There wasn’t really anything to write home about during the opening half-hour with the home side enjoying a lot more possession than their neighbours. However, it was in fact the visitors that produced the opening chance when Luke Piscina found young starlet Patrick Blackman who twisted his marker before unleashing a shot that flew inches over the bar. Invicta then had a chance of their own to open the deadlock when left-back Paul Lamb found himself in the opposition penalty area, only to divert his shot wide of Jamie Turners goal. Simon Glover then saw his header superbly cleared off of the line by Blues captain Craig Roser. Glover opened the scoring after 39 minutes when he finished off a superb move involving Watkins and the prolific James Dryden.

The second half started much brighter than the first period did with both sides continuing to create chances. A Patrick Blackman flick on found striker partner Luke Piscina bearing down on goal, but unfortunately his shot was weak and wide. Jon Heath volleyed wide after good interplay between Blackman and Piscina once again. On 52 minutes, Anthony Hogg had a chance to score against his former club only to witness his shot blocked by the outstanding Lamb again. Central defender, Adam Flanagan doubled their advantage early in the second period after he headed in a delightful cross from the right hand side. The home sides second goal of the evening put them well and truly in the driving seat and nearly made it 3-0 when James Dryden set up Simon Glover’s header which went sailing wide. Glover then cut in from the left hand touchline and clipped a cross/shot that had Turner scrambling across his goal line to clear.
