Tonbridge recovered from Saturday's disappointing result to pick up their first win of the season at Northwood. Goals from Luke Piscina, John Beales and Steve Searle saw off the hosts.
Andy Larkin made a welcome return to the starting eleven replacing John Farley who was struggling with a calf strain. Midfielder Tim Hambley arrived late after traffic problems and newest recruit Anthony Hogg took his place to make his starting debut for the Angels.
The visitors certainly had a point to prove after the defeat against Eastleigh had threatened to dent their morale, and were quick out of the blocks at Chestnut Avenue. Early on Brendon Cass was put through and set up skipper Craig Roser on the left, his cross was headed away into the path of Steve Searle whose cross was headed just wide by Cass. Sam Tydeman then had a chance to open the scoring, seeing his shot blocked after a low cross from Hogg was laid off by Luke Piscina. It was then the hosts' turn to attack and Jamie Turner did well to turn a long-range shot round the post for a corner. On 8 minutes Tonbridge took the lead from a simple set-piece. A short Roser corner went to Tydeman whose first-time cross found Piscina free in the six-yard box to head home.
Northwood were very nearly undone by the same trick seven minutes later. This time Tydeman took the corner and Roser supplied the cross, with Cass' flicked header flying inches wide of the far post. It wasn't to be long before the Angels doubled the lead though, a bizarre incident giving the visitors a 2-0 lead. A deep cross from Sam Tydeman on the left-wing found John Beales, practically on the by-line, and the wing-back's header looped over the static goalkeeper and defender and bounced off the line onto the inside of the bar and into the net.
Tonbridge began the second half in similar style with Luke Piscina going on one of his trademark mazy runs, however the end shot didn't live up to the run and was weakly aimed straight at goalkeeper Rob Bullivant. The Angels were to go 3-0 up on their next attack however, a Craig Roser cross from the left being laid off by Cass to Searle, whose drilled shot deflected wildly off a defender to loop over Bullivant and into the net. Piscina and Cass both had further chances to increase the lead after good creative build-ups, but with the game looking secure the finishing touch was not there.
Northwood got their consolation on 67 minutes, a left-wing cross being sliced home by substitute Dean Papali, but the game petered out and Tonbridge comfortably held on for a much-needed win, taking some confidence with them into Saturday's tough visit to Billericay Town.
