Tonbridge Angels 1-1 Welling United

A second half penalty from much travelled veteran and Angels’ manager Tony Dolby cancelled out an early goal from Paul Booth in this pre-season encounter at a very warm Longmead Stadium.

The home side got off to a poor start, conceding a careless goal to former Margate striker Booth after just 4 minutes on the clock. A long ball over the top of the defence troubled John Beales, which let in the striker to slot calmly under the Angels keeper, Jamie Turner. Mid-way through the first half, Welling striker Tommy Tyne was on the receiving end of a clash with goalkeeper Turner. The striker, nursing a swollen ankle, was immediately replaced by Phil Collins.

The remainder of the first half was dominated by the visitors who were only troubled once when Angels’ reserve team star Joe Fuller was put through on goal following a delightful chip from playmaker Sam Tydeman. However, Fuller’s shot was hit straight at Wings’ new signing Martin Brennan who easily parried the shot from danger.

The second period began much brighter for the Angels as strikers Brendan Cass and Luke Piscina both went close. In fact, it was a break from Cass that lead to the Angels equaliser, after he was hauled to the ground inside the penalty area. Dolby confidently strolled up sending the keeper the wrong way, to make it 1-1.
