Wednesday, 30 October, 2002: Southern Youth League.
Merstham (U-18) 3-2 TAFC (U-18)
A very disappointing display against an average but burley local side. We seem to be suffering a hangover from the AXA FA Youth cup defeat at Tooting two weeks ago.
On a large pitch with a very good wet surface we expected a slick passing performance but throughout the game we passed the ball badly and our movement was poor. PASE keeper Jamie Williams kept us in the game with some early saves but the home side scored their first on the half hour.
The second half saw a slight improvement but soft defending allowed Merstham to take a 3-0 lead. Stung by this embarrassment the Angels played with more urgency and scored
two goals but missed a further six simple chances.
Only Tonbridge player to come out of the game with any credit was right wing Wayne Owen who's pace and determination caused Merstham problems all night.
